Yes, because it's not out of the ordinary for a 17 year old (at the time) to do something like that, whereas a 30 year old Berbatov can also do it. McEachran's first touch is excellent.

respect is altogether different, more honorable and proper I'd say. You've broadened 'seeking attention' into a rather vague term. I'd just call it sucking up to people, not making others aware of you.

We all seek attention to a certain extent or we wouldn't be here, it's totally natural human behaviour. What you should say is 'Theo seeks attention a bit more than I do', but that wouldn't quite have the same ring to it.
