Actually, I accidentally mistook episode 10 for episode 1 and watched 25 minutes of that, so I think I've already spoiled a fair bit.

If I assume correctly, season 1 was basically Book 1, there are like 6 or 7 books.

As soon as Klassea (sp) walked into the fire i knew she wouldn't die because she said she was a dragon and when they killed her brother she said Dragons are not killed by fire

Yeah, but that's not her name. Khaleesi means Queen in Dothraki. You don't refer to Queen Elizabeth as Queen, you say The Queen. Don't you?

But they're different, the Dothraki just called her Khaleesi for a lot of the series.

Rei, how do you keep track of books, like which are good and which aren't. I need to get back into reading to improve my writing and all, but books like the game of thrones have passed right under my nose. The only modern ones I am tracking are the Eragon series, and michelle paver's series about a lad in some pre-historic era. Is there a site which can give me news and recommendations?

Got Game of Thrones, A song of Ice and fire. 700+ pages. I'm confused, is that all the same first book? Daren't read ahead, but it bugs me that it says just the Game of thrones on the cover, and then Song of Ice and Fire a few pages in.

Yeah, I have a couple of series that I recommend. Just tell me what genre you like.

The series is called A Song of Fire and Ice. The first book in the series is called A Game of Thrones.

Guess that means mine is just the first book. Did you here Camelot's canceled? It just couldn't compete with Game of Thrones. But I'm gutted, no closure, and no Eva Green. Annoying when that happens.

As for genre, LOTR type fantasy novels are my favorite. Modern ones are just not to my tastes.

I wasn't watching Camelot so, yeah.

Pity about the urban fantasy thing. I had a great recommendation as well. OK, here goes. I have links to the wikis so you can check out the general plot to further make your decision on which ones to read.

The Wheel of Time Series (13/14 books published)

Very enjoyable series, though I think it kind of drags on a bit to the end. Also, if you don't enjoy men grovelling before women of power, don't read it. I had a big problem wit the way the author bangs on about it in the story. It has been accused of being very LOTR-esque,so I'm sure you'll like it in that respect.

Codex Alera (6/6 books published)

Just a great read from Book 1-6. It's based on the a familiar theme of elemental magic, but with a new twist.

Crown of Stars (7/7 books published)

I read this years ago, and I've been meaning to get to it again.

Wayfarer Redemption: Axis Trilogy (3/3 b.p.)

Another LOTR style book. This one with different races, and a novel story line.

WARNING: There is a second trilogy to the series. Don't even bother with it. Just read the first three.

Old Kingdom Series (3/3 b.p)

This is more offbeat. It's not really modern, but a bit steam-punk-esque. The world is divided into the side that uses magic and those that don't.

The Sword of Truth (11/11 b.p.)

Just a classic. I saw the t.v. show before the books so I just the last couple though. However, I sense that his writing style is the same throughout.

Earthsea (6/6 b.p)

Another classic.

Troy Series

An alternate look at the Trojan War from Aeneas perspective. Probably not for everyone, but I liked it.

Icewind Dale and Dark Elf Trilogies

Rolo would kill me if I didn't mention this. Great writing overall. Check out the author's page for more books he has written


OK. I'm going to make a plug here. IIRC correctly you liked Darren Shan's stuff, even though it was urban. Check this series out. It is brilliant. Give it a try and I'm sure you'll like it.
