Watching a bit of Season 1, the sword that ned uses to execute the deserter is BIG AS FUCK.

Is Ned is actual name or is it a nick-name. I just find it comical that this badass guy is named Ned.

I've decided I'm not getting the 2nd book though, reading that AND watching the series slightly ruined the book since I obviously knew what was going to happen. Was still extremely enjoyable though. So after season 2 is over I'm getting the 3rd book.

I'm not sure if I want to watch this show. It seems a bit too popular...it's very rare that something is both popular in the United States and good.

No idea Robb is 14 at the start of the (book) series, but I see why they had to make him look like he was in the early 20s in the (TV) series.

Everyone is pretty young in the book. Ned is something like 32, Theon 19, Robb & Jon are both 14.

tbh when reading the book it's almost a separate world from the books, I imagine the characters very differently, there's more detail, more backstory (of course) but their attitudes are portrayed a bit differently too, nothing drastic but if you read the books you notice it.
