Real Madrid sacked him after winning the league. Won 2 Champions Leagues with them too.
What the fuck, why?
Because he didn't win the Champions League in 2003.
Capello's managed Madrid for two seasons, 1996/7 and 2006/7, he won the League both seasons and was fired at the end of both seasons. Jupp Heynckes was manager in 1997/98, and he was fired because he only won the Champions League.
Expectations.

Yes, Sven did a great job. It was the fact that he started well then slumped towards the end which got him sacked. If he'd kept a steady pace the whole season and finished in the same position he might have survived.

Baffling why he was sacked. Took Newcastle from the Championship to 12th in the Premiership and got sacked.

Re: Most bizzare sackings?
Del Bosque in Real Madrid is the most bizzare in my eyes, but the coach in Hammarby is bizzare too (nice find, Blowhard, didn't know you were that much into Scandi football. Are you into our women too? )
That Allan Kuhn didn't get his caretaker job at AaB changed to a fulltime was pretty bizzare too, since his team was completely undefeated, including a Champions League match on Old Trafford. I doubt they're complaining in Midtjylland, though.
Some people find the sacking of Lars Olsen in OB rather bizzare too (second place finish two years in a row). I don't find it that strange.

Pardew's sacking from Southampton was rather bizzare, just 'cause it's was off the back of a 4-0 win
We all know what happened though

Some African team, Mozambique I think, sacked their coach and players for not winning the 2010 African Nations Cup.

Ah yes, Mart Nooij.
I also remember Saudi Arabia sacked 3 people over the course of 3 matches.

Metsu at Qatar. They had beaten opposition stronger than them recently before his sacking.
