The South American football confederation only has 10 member nations but having a 12 team tournament makes more sense than a 10 team tournament. Therefore each tournament two non South American nations are invited to take part.
What's wrong with Suriname and Guiana? Japan's International Double? - Page 2 279869

It's Guyana and French Guiana Wink. Guyana considers themselves part of the Caribbean.

Highly unlikely that Japan will win the Copa America.

it's ridiculous though! culturally they have more in common with the islanders but they are geographically a part of south america!

Cuba have more in common with central americans but are a part of the carribean, you can't just choose where you wanna be from!
