Japan's International Double?
In the Asian Cup final today Japan showed that they are a really good international team. They also have been invited to play in this year's Copa America. Do you guys think they could pull the upset and win that as well? I imagine that would be some sort of first if it actually happened.

No chance TBH. Brazil, Argentina, and maybe Uruguay are too strong for Japan IMO.

Re: Japan's International Double?
If Mexico can be runner up twice and get third place on three occasions, a better team like Japan can surely match that.
Not sure if they would be able to beat the Brazils or Argentinas though.
Not to mention that South American refs always favor South America teams. Just putting it out there.

On their day I can see Japan beating Uruguay or even Argentina, but I really can't see them beating Brazil.

Don't see Japan winning against Brazil either, but you never know in football.

If Argentina and Brazil got knocked out before playing Japan by some lucky Uruguay or Colombia side, than perhaps.

Re: Japan's International Double?
Same way Mexico can, by invitation, Comebolas has invited 2 countries to the competition since 1993.Sean CFC wrote:What how can they play i'n south America?
Usually from Concacrap. So Mexico and then someone else.
Mexico(1993,1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2004, and 2007)
Costa Rica(1997, 2001, and 2004)
Honduras(2001)
Japan(1999, and 2011)
United States(1993, 1995, and 2007)

Re: Japan's International Double?
The South American football confederation only has 10 member nations but having a 12 team tournament makes more sense than a 10 team tournament. Therefore each tournament two non South American nations are invited to take part.Sean CFC wrote:What how can they play i'n south America?

Re: Japan's International Double?
I think you guys are giving Japan too much credit, Australia dominated them in the final and Japan are just lucky that we couldn't finish any half decent opportunity. We showed that Japan struggle alot if you play solid defense against them, we were by far the better team but a lapse in concentration by Carney gave them an easy goal.

It's Guyana and French Guiana . Guyana considers themselves part of the Caribbean.
Highly unlikely that Japan will win the Copa America.

Re: Japan's International Double?
The only thing that was shown yesterday is that Japan has a crazy keeper and Australia hasn't a single competent striker.

Re: Japan's International Double?
We made it to the semis in '95, when we sucked. So Japan could have an outside chance. We also topped our group of Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina, beating the latter two, and losing to Bolivia.

Why can't England get an invite? We'd easily win it or get to the final at the very least

Re: Japan's International Double?
australia was dominate japan i think mostl ybecause they were shock by the aussies approach to game
they probly expections aussies to park bus like normally but they attacked
plus u must remember japan heirachy of defenders was really poor, their best 4 centrebacks were all injury before asian cup and morimoto and abe were not even called up. so japan squad was not as strong as what it could be
if tulio and nakazawa playing in this asian cup they would of being unstoppable and never concede such silly goals like in group stage and knockouts
i think japan can going good in copa america. i think they are definitely better then team like colombia, ecuador, and those others, maybe brasil and argentina will be difficults but they already beating argentina recently so who knows. japan is like a little brasil in attack and when their best defence is fit again i think they will being awesomes

Naah.
I didnt really get the feeling that Australia were the better side, it's weird, because Kiwashima worked more in terms of having to come ot for the ball, and he made two saves on 1 vs. 1, but I never felt that Australia were dominating, maybe it was because of the lack of combination play, I don't know. After Japan switched to 3-5-2 they were able to limit Cahill's effectiveness.

Re: Japan's International Double?
australias play is very basic and very british direct play
is not sophisticated and good to watch like japanese play but aussies longballing seeming very effective against asian teams because those defences and goalkeeper are usually really crap and always shitting themselve when they see a cross. goalkeeper instead of catch cross usually he try to run away because he is scared
kawashima is good in this match. how u say "very unjapanese" goalkeeping display

Re: Japan's International Double?
ridiculous isn't it. hey japan, fresh from more relatively easy silverware in your walk in the park confederation, come play in the copa america!
there's teams in europe better than em who'll never get out of their qualifying groups, let alone win the actual finals. but lets bestow japan with the honour of winning an International trophy from a different region too, eh?! it's still an opportunity.. albeit a long shot, via utterly ridiculous circtumstances

no chance!
only south american teams win competitions in south america!
even when the World Club Cup was played in Brazil, two Brazilian teams contested the final!
