If people actually scouted, they could find a dozen Alex Chamberlains in Italy/Spain/France/Holland/Germany/Romania and all of South America, and buy them for 1/12 of the price Alex is going for.
Oh yeah, because Arsene Wenger doesn't bother to scout abroad!
Arsenal have opened negotiations with Southampton for winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Arsène Wenger has confirmed.
The 17-year-old has already told friends he wants to move to North London, leaving an agreement with the League One outfit the only detail left to resolve. Arsenal have been monitoring the youngsters progress for a while, but stepped up their scouting in November, when he played for England Under 18′s against Poland Under 18′s.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has since been head hunted by a selection of Premier League clubs, including Liverpool and Manchester United. However, they failed to register their interest and on Sunday afternoon, Arsenal officially moved in. A structured offer of around £10 million has been provisionally accepted, with the two sides negotiating the payments.
Southampton want £7 million up front and the player and to keep him on loan until the end of the season, but Wenger is only willing to part with £5 million now and wants the player straight away. A deal close to the £7 million mark is expected to go through this week.
English newspaper the Daily Mail suggested Alex was at London Colney on Friday for talks. Although this is untrue, he has held low level talks with the club and decided he wants to move to Arsenal.
Personal terms and a medical will be completed upon Southampton agreeing on a financial settlement.

10 million for a league 1 player that is 17 years old, fucking madness.
Arsène Wenger will “try as hard as he can” to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Reports over the weekend suggested that the highly-rated 17-year-old midfielder had decided to join Arsenal. Speaking after Saturday’s win over Wigan, Wenger could not confirm that. However the manager did admit he was willing to fight off other clubs to seal a deal.
“If [news of Oxlade-Chamberlain’s choice] is right then I think that is a very good decision,” said the Frenchman.
“We will try now. We need an agreement with Southampton, we need an agreement with the player and we are not the only ones on the case. But we will try as hard as we can as I like him as a player.”

[/quote]I still don't believe it. But hey, we're the winners here, flogging a 17 year old kid with no experience above League 1 for £12m.

We'll be laughing when he's an England international.
Put it this way, he's got tons more potential than Walcott. He can play on either wing, behind the striker, or as the striker.ZlatanFabregas wrote:I've hardly seen him play any way. What's he like?
