Stereotypes about Football that are simply wrong Empty Stereotypes about Football that are simply wrong

Post by Guest Tue Jan 18, 2011 1:07 pm

    I'll start,

Serie A being boring and slowpaced.

Why it is not slow at all. It is quite a fast game in Italy.

Serie A is also far far far from boring, IMO it is the most entertaining league out there. The teams are fairly even in quality, the players are top quality, tackles are much more harder as well. Italian Diving is over-used as hell. Yes there is some diving, a bit more so than other leagues, but you people make it sound like it happens every few minutes.

Tactically, Serie A is much more interesting, like I said, the pace of the game is also very much alive. It is not the stereotypical "Boring league full of diving cunts that make me fall asleep" that people(particularly the British) on here say it is.

I'd appreciate it if people stopped being so ignorant and actually watch a few Serie A matches before labeling it as so. There is a big reason Serie A is by far my favorite league to watch, and you all should take the moment to appreciate it as well.

I practically grew up watching Serie A regularly on British Euro Sport. I'm not sure why anyone would call it boring, they have obviously never watched an Italian game in they're life. It can get a bit passy passy keep hold of posseniony sometimes but, that's just the tactics.

Serie A used to be on channel 4(or 5) when we was little. We have watched games but this is probably 10 years ago, Serie A was rubbish and many don't wish to give it a try again when there is our product which is easier accessible and better.

im no know what some people say about slow pace

maybe those english viewers they want to see ball in box at every moment, their attention span is very small so they must being stimulate by seeing long balls

in serie a i guess team try to play intelligent and keep the ball, stereotype that calcio is slow is from the 60s of catenaccio when backpass rule was not created

is ok serie a is improving in recent years new stadium being built, more money and better finance structure implement by serie a now hope seeing serie a becoming best league in world again like it use to be for many year

Seriously? I've never once heard somebody make that claim. Kinda hard for that claim to take hold in any meaningful fashion though, isn't it? They're 7th and they haven't won a title in several years.

I haven't watched Serie A that much but generally when I have I've not exactly been impressed.....

Also I'm not saying the better alternative is Mauro's "Yeah go on son blast it up there to their box and get stuck in".

Yeah but given you hate the Spanish style, and every other non-English style it pretty much is the alternative.

This also proves that you don't have to be dirty to do well in the league...though some are anyway scratch

We also score the most and whilst we have good technical players in the field we have a good balance and don't get boring.

"Egypt is not good at the world stage"

    - Although that might have been true years ago, that's not really the case right now. The current Egyptian generation is highly experienced and can perform against the world's top teams. The reason people might have this misconception is because Egypt have failed to reach the World Cup since 1990. But if you think about it, failure to qualify from Africa says nothing about your ability to compete with the world. Just as the African Cup of Nations, the World Cup qualifications only feature African teams. There are many more reasons as to why Egypt can't qualify to the World Cup; one of them is not their lack of ability to compete with other teams.

"The Egyptian Premier League is highly uncompetitive"

    - Again, this isn't true depending on how you define competitive. Ahly have won the last six league titles, but their domination has been slipping away at both the Egyptian and African level. Despite the first place position not changing over six years, every other position in the table has been inconsistent. Zamalek, which are considered the second strongest club in Egypt, have placed 6th, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, and 2nd over the past six years. Ismaily, considered the third best club, have placed anywhere from 2nd to 4th over the six years. In 2009 they lost the title to Ahly in a playoff match after being tied in points with Ahly after the last matchday. Former second division teams like Petrojet and the other company owned clubs have secured their positions in the top flight and have even challenged for the title in the first half of the seasons.

"Messi is weak"..."Messi is poor at heading"..."Messi is poor at long range shots & freekicks"

    - Messi is one of the strongest players on the ball in the world. His ball control is amazing, even when he has half the defense hacking at his feet as he flows through them like water. Defenders twice his size literally grab on him, yet Messi rarely goes down and still manages to keep the ball at his feet. Despite his small stature, Messi has quite the leap. He has scored several headers in his career including the memorable header against Manchester United in the Champions League final. Messi is also good at long range shots and freekicks. He is much more effective at freekicks then Cristiano Ronaldo. In additino, a couple of months ago, an article claimed that Messi has scored more goals outside the box than Ronaldo has.
