LEEDS UNITED
Leeds United are a football team located in Beeston (Helmand Province), Leeds, in God's own county, Yorkshire.
They are an incredibly big team with a world wide fan base, and are mentioned in the same breath as teams such as Liverpool, Barcelona, Manchester United and Real Madrid as 'all-time greats'.
There is a shroud surrounding Leeds and the club are generally known to their rivals as 'dirty Leeds'. This is pure myth and is an excuse made my jealous clubs when they look back on the history of Leeds in the 1970's. Many teams claim to be Leeds' rivals, and in fact they are the most hated team in Britain. But sadly for these teams, the truth is that Leeds don't care for them, they only actually hate Manchester United and Galatasaray.
Leeds also have a reputation of being incredibly unlucky in Europe. Having been cheated out of two European Cup titles in as many years. First it was Inter, then it was Bayern. Despite a referee from one of the games (I forget which) admitting to being bribed by the opposition, UEFA still refused to give the title to Leeds, handing them a 4 year ban from European competition in the process.
Now, people may be asking, 'if they're so big, what were they doing in the third tier of English football last year?' Well, the answer is simple, from being one game away from the Champions League final just 10 years ago, Leeds have been in freefall due to the overspending of Peter 'Santa' Ridsdale. The appointments of the inadequate Terry Venables and Peter Reid didn't help the cause either.
However, they are now on their way back up, after promotion last year and an away record Liverpool could only dream of. In their last 4 away games against last season's top 4, Leeds have managed to gain 6 points and remain unbeaten. These results were 1-1 at Man Utd, 1-0 at Man Utd, 2-2 at Spurs & 1-1 at Arsenal.
With a young, ambitious and talented squad, a young, ambitious and talented manager and an old, greedy and scheming chairman, Leeds seem to be on the rise back to the holy land of the Premier League, where they belong.
