Neither is Vidic, doesn't mean he plays left wing ffs.

Like I said before, the full backs list is pretty weak. There have been better players in those position who aren't mentioned. It was either Ramos or Ivanovic for me, I hadn't seen Van Der Wiel play enough to consider him so I picked out of those two.

Admitedly, not including Messi was actually a mistake. And in my eariler comment I actually said him and Ronaldo are the only two players who could probably be in the team of year, year in year out. Just forgot to actually edit the team.

As for Xavi, to me, he's not performed better than his previous season. He's been more or less the same, I haven't noticed any vast improvements. Same can't be said for Schweinsteiger and Fabregas, who I feel just keep getting better each season.

    Fair enough on Messi.

I agree that Xavi hasn't improved. But he didn't need to improve. He's still better at running games than anybody.

For me, you can't find a more potent triumvirate than Messi-Xavi-Iniesta.

    CB: Lucio
    CB: Pique
    LB: Michel Bastos
    RM: Cristiano Ronaldo
    CM: Sebastian Schweinsteiger
    CM: Xavi
    LM: Iniesta
    AM: Messi
    ST: Luis Suarez

    ------------------------Casillas------------------------
    Maicon----------Lucio-------------Pique----------Bastos
    -------------------------Schweinsteiger---------------
    -------------Xavi-------------------------------------
    Ronaldo----------------Messi-------------------Iniesta
    ----------------------Luis Suarez---------------------

    Subs (7): De Gea (GK); Sergio Ramos(or Maicon)(RB); David Luiz(CB); Giovanni van Bronckhorst (LB), Cambiasso (CM); Mesut Ozil (AM); Samuel Eto'o (ST);

Let me explain myself. I made this XI as the best "Team", best Whole Unit. Not just a selection of top players who together probably won't be as effective as Barcelona currently is anyway.

I designed this team to be the most effective in general. Most effective unit.

Firstly at GK, my decision for De Gea on the bench, as I think the age difference is the right difference for De Gea to slip into his prime as Casillas declines.

At RB, I couldn't decide between Ramos and Maicon. Both are good and both would be on the team.

The CB's are fairly straightforward. One stopper CB, and one cover CB. LB I have Michel Bastos starting, I feel he would connect with Iniesta well on the wing, allowing Iniesta to freely roam into the middle while having an option to the left. Plus he can track back easily.

Van Bronckhorst was decided on when I would need a player with more present defensive abilities.

Schweinsteiger would have a box2box role. He would assist on both the offensive and the defensive sides of the game, and would lurk around outside the box most of the times. Xavi would be the more creative midfielder.

Ronaldo and Iniesta are obvious choices on the wing, with Messi in the middle. I decided when it comes to substitutions, I would place Ozil into Messi's position, and move Messi to either the left or right wing. If something were to happen to both wings, I can push Xavi up to AM and bring Ozil on the wing with Messi and put in Cambiasso in the midfield.

Suarez is an interesting choice, i'll get on that in a moment.

Basically the idea is supporting play, similar to Barcelona in a way, but more direct, so to say. It wouldn't be a super possesive, it would be playmaking and moving into channels, which is why I chose Luis Suarez. Suarez is a hard worker, holds the ball up well, moves in channels and can link plays. Exactly what the team needs upfront. Suarez will be involved in most team goals, but he won't be the one scoring it, likely Messi would. BUT when Suarez is in the position in the box, with the ball, you can rely on him to put it at the back of the net.

I chose Suarez over the others because he is perfectly suited for the role, has the perfect mentality for this team, and with the midfield behind him, can be quite a beat. The other player I would consider is Tevez, although Tevez while better at other specific things, Suarez is better at others. He is more creative, a better passer and moves into channels better, and technically superior.

In the second half, I would try to look at switching Ronaldo for Ozil, and moving Messi to RM, while bringing Eto'o on for Suarez. I think Ozil and Eto'o could reap damage, especially with such a great support from Messi/Iniesta/Xavi.

Oh, and Manager would be van Marwijk or van Gaal. I feel only those two on the list could play a system similar to what I described.

edit: Added the visual tactic. Wink

Surely Villa should be in it then as Messi and Villa seem to have hit it off recently.

I feel he fits the team more than Ashley Cole.

Cole is too well rounded and won't do the things Bastos would do when moving forward. I feel Iniesta would link better with Bastos than he would with Cole.

Plus Bastos is Brazilian and we know how Brazilians are. UEFA Team Of The Year - Page 4 7oGh7

No, I am saying he doesn't fit.

I think Cole > Bastos but for the sake of the team, Bastos is the better fit and I would rather have him on it. I am making a team, not a bunch of players who may be world class but can't play properly together. UEFA Team Of The Year - Page 4 7oGh7

No he doesn't. Take off your English tinted glasses.

Cole would not link up with Iniesta the way Bastos would. Cole would not go forward the way Bastos does. Cole would not move in channels the way Bastos does.

Both players can do all those things I listed, but they do it differently. I think Bastos would favor the formation and tactics better than Cole does,l thus why I picked him on the team.

Cole is a better player, but Bastos favors the tactics more. Plus Bastos got Brazilian tiki-taka. Cool

Anywho, I am not sure about Bastos, but Cole's mental game isn't the best ever and his mentality both on and off the pitch isn't the best. I don't know how Bastos is, but i'd imagine it'd be favorable to Cole.

I said they do the same things differently. If you watch Bastos you'd understand. Plus Bastos doesn't stop running either.

They both get in dangerous positions, but the type of dangerous positions they get into are different. Plus do you see Cole linking up with Iniesta? (rofl) It'd be confusing and a huge mess, Iniesta wouldn't be able to drift in.

Fuck, why do I bother posting seriously on here?
Mate, I reckon you don't watch Cole play, I don't even like the guy...

Why wouldn't Iniesta be able to drift inside? Neutral

Cole never stops running, he'd go on the overlap all the time, letting Iniesta cut inside.. Do you never watch England or Chelsea play? facepalm
