Balotelli has been overrated since his ManCity days and possibly before then too. I remember when people were jumping on his dick during Euro 2012.

The thing is he was really good for his age at one point, but he's just not progressed since then. I think people took for granted the fact that he would have still have to improve and it wasn't a given. I remember watching two pundits talk about him while he was at City and one was insistent that he was City's Cantona in both attitude and ability.
I still think he has time to improve and I wouldn't write him off yet though. Age 24 now though, he needs to start backing it up in the next couple of years or it's too late.

Balotelli has had fuck all service, though. We've been so shit all over the pitch since Spurs and the only clear cut chance I remember him having since the Spurs game was that side-foot volley sitter against Everton, which Howard somehow, miraculously got the slightest touch to, to divert it up onto the bar. Apart from that, he's been restricted to long range efforts and shocking long balls aimed at his head.
The knee-jerk over Welbeck after this hat-trick is amusing though. Up until his hat-trick last night, he had been shocking, missing sitters all over the place. Now, all of sudden, he's a great signing.
Next week, when Chelsea absolutely cunt Arsenal, he'll be shit all over again.

Did he really? I just think that Sturridge's world class movement and pace will create a little more space for other players, and every player could do with a little more space.

Also, whilst we're on the subject of Balotelli, has anyone else noticed how he's being targeted? Keeps getting nasty kicks in the shins/ankles, etc. It's like he can't get past anyone without being hacked down.

Imagine targeting a player who is known to be hot tempered with nasty sly little digs to try and provoke a reaction. If a Liverpool player did that he'd probably be kicked out of the club.

They're not sly digs, though. They're actual fouls, that get pulled up as fouls by the ref.
Apart from that off the ball incident against Aston Villa, where their CB tripped Balotelli up.

Biting, eye gouging, racial abuse, hair pulling etc. are all actual fouls as well. It happens to all known hotheaded players, some of the shit Barton got a couple of years ago (to the amusement of Shearer and co) was unbelievable. It's one of football's ways of punishing violent and reckless footballers and the clubs who sign them. There are benefits for these players as well to be fair, often they become completely overrated because of their presence in the public eye, gain a cu*t following, getting higher wages and sponsorship deals.
