Obviously the fans aren't privy to what goes on in training and Wenger can rant all he wants about what he's achieved tactically in the past, point still stand that during games most people can plainly see when a player is not suited to a position. And this clarity is only heightened further by how often he plays them out of position. After you a play a player out of position 5+ times it becomes obvious. Wilshere isn't a winger nor is he capable being a DM. Cazorla isn't a winger, and it's even more infuriating when you see how well he did in his 1st season at Arsenal playing in the middle. Ozil isn't capable of functioning as a human being whilst on a football pitch. Sanchez isn't a striker. 4141 doesn't work for Ramsey. Yet these are things Wenger persists with. If you don't have the correct type of player to play in that position you go buy one.
I also don't like how we're playing but that's probably born out of the players we have rather than a concentrated effort by Wenger to play shit football.
/rant.
Right now who would you play? I feel like he's kinda forced into playing players out of position because of who he has. Okay you can say he got the transfers wrong, but who would you play with the squad as is? You'd have to sacrifice someone if you don't play them out of position.
With the current squad of player, against shit teams we should play like we did Galatasaray. Welbeck as a striker since he's the best we have. Sanchez and Oxlade out wide. We've been playing with wingers for years so why Wenger has recently insisted on playing AM outwide is strange. Last season it was universally recognised that when Walcott and Oxlade were out injured we lacked pace and suffered massively because of it. Picking Sanchez is self explanatory and Oxlade after he had that bad 2nd season has been decent since, seems to be a threat when ever he gets the ball. I think those winger are pretty important to us, I dread seeing our fullbacks involved in the play so much, they just don't offer a clinical attacking touch and bombing up field all the time leaves us exposed at the back.
Then inside of those two play two of Ozil, Cazorla or Wilshere. I think Ozil is shit regardless, but people seem be insistent that playing him in the center will return him back to his Real Madrid self. As Theo has mentioned, Cazorla played his best football for Malaga in that position and when he played there in his 1st at Arsenal he was arguably our player of the season. Wilshere also does alright in that role, when he's close to the penalty area and able to do tight dribbles around players or play little one-twos or ball round the corner to runners and he could offer little bit more defensive cover than aforementioned two. Then behind those two play a DM, I think Arteta is back fit but Flamini will also have to do, he played alright against Chelsea. Diaby is also an option, he's got all the physical attributes we are crying out for in the position it's just a case of whether he's touch and reading of the game is up to speed out being out for so long.
Against the big teams (City, Chelsea and on form Liverpool, United) I really don't see any combination of the fit players we have getting us a win. At this point I'd go into games like those trying to contain those teams for as long as possible and then take the draw if need be with the hope that lapse in concentration from the opposition coupled with an uncharacteristic moment of magic from our star players gets a goal and a win. If we'd held out for draws in the away games against Liverpool, City Chelsea and United then we would have won the league last season.
That's how I think we should play, on paper in might sound dobale but who knows if it'll work in real life.
