Wait, did the Academy literally forget Joan Rivers died? Phenomenal.

At the very least it is a list of significant films from the year. I try to watch most of the big films in any given year. It has helped with quiz general knowledge.

I watched Chappie a few days ago, the first 75% of the film is great and I prefered it to district 9, the last 25% is pretty iffy though. I think the ending could have been a lot stronger. Also I loved Die Antwoord in it.

Kingsman was good. I didn't like Hot Tube Time Machine 2 as much as the first one.

I can't believe I've never seen This is Spinal Tap before, I've watched about 6 hours of clips today and it might be the funniest thing I have ever seen.

The Prestige, one of the best films I've ever seen, really outstanding. Much like Interstellar I wasn't too fond of
coming into the storyline but it didn't really detract from what was a hugely gripping, powerful film.
Current Nolan rankings
The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight Rises
The Prestige
Interstellar
Memento
Inception
Batman Begins

To be fair, I think it added quite a bit to the story in the Prestige. In Interstellar it was copout bullshit.

Interstellar I had less of a problem with it.
- Spoiler:
- When you're dealing with 5 dimensional beings from humanity's future who are able to create wormholes to save their own futures the technology is such that pretty much anything goes, it's a central conceit of the film. I don't think it worked as well in that it was just sort of dropped on you in the ending but it was less of a cop out.
The Prestige it starts out as two guys in the real world trying to beat each other doing tricks, until two thirds of the way through the film one of them finds a machine that will actually do magic, I mean what the fuck? Where the hell did that come from? It seemed really out of place, I was watching a drama about illusionists trying to work out what had happened and then suddenly I was watching a science fiction film. I'd prefer the two to be kept apart, or at least to know what I'm watching.

Star Wars, Jurassic World, Batman v Superman trailers all released in the last few days. Thoughts?

Jurassic World - Looks fucking retarded on many levels but will probably be a good watch
Batman v Superman - Think the concept's retarded, but that trailer had my hyped for it despite myself

Avengers 2 is decent. First was one better though imo.

I saw Mad Max last night and it was so shit. The only good part is the guitarist.

Mad Max- really entertaining movie. One of my two favorite movies so far this year.
Ex-Machina- my other favorite movie I've seen this year.
I'd say both are must watch. Especially since there hasn't been anything worth watching this year until these two.

Can't tell if I liked Mad Max or not. I think it was amazing at whatever it was trying to do, but whatever that was isn't really my type of film.

So you didn't like it. A better worded question would have been "I don't know if Mad Max was a good film or not?"

After reflecting on it, I think I did enjoy it. Just not as much as I might have.

Yeah, me as well. I am going with someone, it's the first time I won't be alone in a cinema for over a decade.SBSP wrote:Greatly looking forward to it.

Jurassic World was good, but it got really cheesy at times. A huge improvement on the third movie.

Hate Chris Pratt. He's the new male version of Jennifer Lawrence.

I feel the same way. I don't even think that either is particularly grotesque, I just resent their unflappable optimism, terrible jokes pandering to morons, and deification by the internet.Keyser Söze wrote:Hate Chris Pratt. He's the new male version of Jennifer Lawrence.

Exactly this. Also don't like their "Oh I can't believe I'm a big movie star" shit every time someone interviews them about their success.

Chris Pratt was good in Parks & Rec. It feels weird how suddenly famous he got after that.
