Still can't believe Arsenal signed Ozil. Can't believe Real let him go, he was up for the move and they actually paid £40m. He's pretty obviously going to be a hit, look forward to seeing him play.

£130-140K is what I've seen reported. Could be less since he was on €5million a year at Madrid and him and his father were pushing hard for Perez to give him €7million which is logically what we would have offered him.

Apparently Real Madrid forced him out and Man United turned him down.Zzonked wrote:Still can't believe Arsenal signed Ozil. Can't believe Real let him go, he was up for the move and they actually paid £40m. He's pretty obviously going to be a hit, look forward to seeing him play.

He also rejected PSG, would've turned down United anyway.

Safe pair of hands or Arsene Wenger?
Thiago, Fabregas and any other player they wanted didn't want to play for that clown either.

His form simply wasn't slicing the cheddar. I can still see him being a decent "reject" signing like the likes of Bellamy, Toure, etc.

Podolski out for 3 months, as opposed to the 8-10 weeks being talked about before.

10 weeks was obviously the worse case scenario, so it's more like an extra month out. That's 4+ games.Theo Filippo wrote:He's out for 2 weeks longer than expected, oh no.
He'll miss your next 16 games. That's a lot.

Re: Official Arsenal FC Thread
It probably sounds fan girl-ish but I still genuinely can't believe we signed him. I'd given up hope on us signing an established world class player but even if you've never seen Özil play you just have to read how the football world has reacted to him leaving. I never seen footballers and manager be so surprised to see a player leave a club. The Zlatan wrote:http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/ozil-at-arsenal-the-first-pictures

The reaction of all the footballers/managers says a lot about Arsenal.

If he moved to another top tier Club, these people wouldn't be coming out with all these comments.arsenalap11 wrote:No it says a lot about Ozil.Scott M wrote:It's verging on Belieber territory now.

But all the comments have been about how Real Madrid would let a player of his quality go. Regardless of who he went to it still wouldn't help these people understand why Real Madrid let him leaveScott M wrote:If he moved to another top tier Club, these people wouldn't be coming out with all these comments.arsenalap11 wrote:No it says a lot about Ozil.

I know that, but even so, I feel that if he went to a top tier Club, we wouldn't see so many of these comments. The comments stem from the fact he's taken a big step down. It's the shock factor.Keyser Söze wrote:But all the comments have been about how Real Madrid would let a player of his quality go. I don't remember hearing these kind of comments when the likes of Fabregas went to Barca, Nasri went to City, RVP went to Arsenal, Alonso went to Madrid, Gotze went to Bayern, etc. Why? Because they weren't taking a step down, even though it's a similar situation, as in, a Club letting a player of tremendous quality leave.

People were going mental when Gotze moved to Bayern and to answer the other ones - Because Mesut Ozil is better than all of them and is only going to get better.

Is it true that Ozil struggles to finish 90 minutes and goes missing in big games? (Bar the odd occasion).

Re: Official Arsenal FC Thread
Your right they weren't saying 'How could Dortmund let him go' because they didn't have a choice in the matter.
He doesn't often complete games but that could be down to a number of other reasons and no it isn't.

I think he makes a good point regarding the big games.Let's see if Ozil reproduces what Cesc did at a much younger age for Arsenal.
Look up some of the performances of Cesc for Arsenal, against big clubs too. Never went into hiding, even as a teenager, which Ozil is still doing despite the world class reputation. Have you seen him in any of the key meetings of Madrid in Champions League? Inferior ManU? Borussia Dortmund? How about earlier years, Barca in CL? What about that time when they played Bayern Munich? How about for Germany vs Italy?
Cesc had a limited time for Spain so far, but when played, he provides something. For Arsenal, he won the game almost by himself vs Milan away, when they were better than what they are now. A long range hit, remember him celebrating like he was crying? What about his goal vs Juventus when they had some great players and Paddy Vieira? How about Cesc and Henry winning vs Real Madrid at Bernabeu?
I know, Cesc being on the bench tarnished his reputation, but there were lots of people arguing he is better than Xavi and Iniesta. He is a superb player, and may be he shouldn't have come to Barca, not at that time anyway. A premier midfielder, if ManU were to buy him, he'd be the best midfielder in England the moment he steps comes out of plane. We have watched enough of Ozil youtube clips, go watch now some of the things Cesc did for Arsenal (!!!). Let's see if Ozil can win an away match vs Real Madrid, Juventus, Bayern Munich etc. in CL.

Re: Official Arsenal FC Thread
Well I thought it was obvious that theses comments stem from the fact he left Real Madrid Their is no step up from them, why would they allow a world class player that didn't want to leave, leave ? Fabregas wanted to leave, Nasri wanted to leave, Alonso wanted to leave, Gotze wanted to leave. Their clubs could do nothing about them leaving. The point is (and again I thought this was obvious), if Özil wasn't world class then no one would be so shocked as to why Madrid let him leave. This has zero to do with what club he signed for.Scott M wrote:I know that, but even so, I feel that if he went to a top tier Club, we wouldn't see so many of these comments. Also, Nasri, Alonso and Gotze were not on the same level as Özil when they left, he is comfortably better than all of them.
