I still haven't watched the last episode, maybe it ain't so good anymore.

It seems like they are crowbarring a lot of things into the last season.

It is the final season. They must want to get everything they've written out there.

I'm interested to know if most shows know when their final season is coming. I feel it would be much more organic if a series ended when the story was finished, not at a determined season X. There is the possibility of overstaying I suppose, like the Simpsons, but there's more room to work with.

Seems to me like they decide on that after shooting the penultimate season. That way they don't leave on cliffhangers unless ratings or directing issues fuck them up. Which happens alot, so we still get plenty of unsatisfactory endings.
