Do any of you think Donovan might retire full stop from international football after his break.
I can see that happening even if the US get by without him.

Obviously, every country has their idols, but Landycakes had the added pressure that he was the guy everyone hoped would make soccer popular in the US. And I think he's gotten closer to that than anyone else has. Footballing idols from other countries don't have that load to bare, soccer is already a thing in those countries.
I think Mexico's teams is a bit "meh." Casillas nasty injury made him lose his place in the squad. (He started against Columbus recently, didn't do much though.) There are players like Marin, Abella, and Bernardo Hernandez who haven't even played a single game of professional football, and then there's Van Rankin, god that guy is just not very good.Scuba Steve wrote:Apparently gave us a real weak penalty, but denied us two stone cold ones. The ref giveth, and taketh. And the goal that Mexico had incorrectly ruled out was in the 119th minute, when the game was already over as a competitive outing.
Mexico was clearly had the better talent, so it was surprising that we were able to force overtime in the game. Did Mexico have a strong squad for the tournament? We scraped by a bit, obviously Gil left after we qualified, and we had to play a couple of players out of position just to finish the tournament (Serna, I think is his name, is a #10, and he played right back against Cuba and Mexico). I think we might have been a bit more competitive in this tournament and the actual World Cup had Pelosi and Packwood been available. Alas, broken legs are a bitch.
