Eto'o handed 15-match ban

Cameroon captain Samuel Eto'o has been handed a 15-match international ban for the part he played in leading a players' strike.

Eto'o - along with vice-captain Eyong Enoh, who must serve a similar suspension - persuaded team-mates not to travel to Algeria for a friendly in November.

Anzhi Makhachkala striker Eto'o and Ajax midfielder Enoh were summoned to a hearing on Monday, at the end of which they were made aware of their punishment.

"Samuel Eto'o, in his role as captain, incited his team-mates to refuse to travel to Algeria," the Cameroon football federation (Fecafoot) said on its official website.

The federation's disciplinary committee added that midfielder Enoh also 'lacked respect for the vice-president of Fecafoot'.

The Cameroon squad took action after finding that money promised to them for their participation in a four-nation tournament in Morocco the previous weekend had not been paid.

Tottenham full-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto has been fined one million CFA francs for failing to appear at the event in Morocco.

Eto'o, Enoh and Ekotto have 10 days in which to lodge appeal against their sanctions.

What a parasite like act.

For this strike to ever possibly work it needs a well known leader like Samuel Eto'o. This money might be a big deal for the other less known players involved. Without a leader no one would listen to the players here. While the end result sucks for Eto'o the lesser known players have a voice.
