    HÉCTOR ALFONSO MORALES
DOMINGO, 22 DE JULIO DE 2012

    Liga MX: Apertura 2012 Hugo-y10

Hugo Sanchez, considered by many Mexico's best player of all time, has a rivalry with Argentine coach, and former player, Ricardo La Volpe. When Hugo was with Pumas, he scored a bicycle kick against Atlante goalkeeper La Volpe. La Volpe said, "that stupid kid will never score on me like that again". The next time the two teams faced each other, Hugo scored another bicycle kick on him, and that is where the rivalry started.

Three out of the four big clubs tied, while another one lost.

As a player Hugo owns LaVolpe, but as a coach LaVolpe wins that.

    Results for the first fixture:

    Jaguares 0 - Tigres 4
    Tijuana 2 - Puebla 0
    Cruz Azul 0 - Morelia 0
    Queretaro 0 - Leon 2
    Santos 2 - San Luis 1
    Monterrey 0 - America 0
    Atlas 1 - Pumas 1
    Toluca 2 - Chivas 1
    Atlante 0 - Pachuca 0

Juninho(CB) was the best player with a goal and two assist in Tigres' victory.

Overall it was a bad weekend in terms of entertainment. None of the 4 major teams(Chivas, America, Cruz Azul, Pumas) were able to win, and between them there were only 2 goals scored. The Atlante-Pachuca match was hyped because of their managers rivalry, but it turned out to be the worst match of the weekend.

^ I know right. Had to watch the America game on a crappy stream due to Univision hogging the games for its new channel Mad.

I was looking forward to the Pachuca-Atlante game too, but it turned out to be the worst game like you said. The most entertaining part of the game was actually the hand shake between Hugo and Lavolpe. Laughing

Also, I think this Leon side is no joke and they're going to be here for a while.

The handshake was the only thing people took away from the game. Laughing

Leon are still on a high from their promotion, but it will eventually run out. If they will get enough points to go in to the liguilla remains to be seen. I see them just missing it. They don't seem like a team capable of withstanding any injuries.

As far as the new league goes, I'm not pleased with the changes. The liguilla stayed which was foreseen as it brings in big money, but they got rid of the advantage given to the top seeded teams. There is no motivation for teams to get placed higher, as long as they make it into the top 8. The teams that have a secured spot before the season is over will just stop giving their all to get the higher seed, and just rest their players.

The much talked about Pacto de Caballeros is still in place, but as Ferretti said, it isn't up to the league to change that. It is something that is unspoken, and agreed upon by the team owners. Just look at Cristian Riveros. He hasn't belonged to Cruz Azul since 2010, but when Tigres tried to buy him this off-season they had to pay Cruz Azul for the transfer to go through.

The Copa MX has good things about it. Like the 2nd division teams having home advantage, certain amount of players from the first team must play, etc. What is stupid about it is the separation into two Copas. Every major league has one cup per year. The English have the FA cup, the Spanish have the Copa del Rey, and so on, but they decided to have two copas for every football year. Just as stupid as dividing the season into two. The other thing that bothers me about it is that teams participation in the CONCACAF Champions league, or later in the Libertadores, don't get to participate in the cup. You don't see Manchester not being allowed in the FA cup just because they are also in Champions.

There are other things that are still problems, but I'll stop there for now. Even with all this shit, I am excited that the league is back. Weekend football watching, just isn't the same.

That's probably the dumbest thing they could have done with this new copa. How teams cannot compete in multiple tournaments is beyond me. They say it's a calendar thing and what not, but if it was a year long season, maybe the Copa matches could be spread out throughout the year like the Premier League. As far as the league goes, I'll have to see how the away goal rule plays out in the liguilla. I think if it's tied on away goals then the higher seed goes through to the next round.

Pacto de Caballeros is horseshit. Riveros wasn't part of Cruz Azul, and yet they would receive money for him? Liga MX: Apertura 2012 58503 That makes no sense to me. Hercules Gomez spoke on it pretty damn well. They should all just come together and refuse to play until they terminate that rule. No play=no money for those clowns.

That is another problem. The players don't have a union. It is mostly foreign players that speak out about it with the exception of Hugo Sanchez and a few others. Hugo, Hermosillo, and other important players tried to form the players union in the early 90's, but Hermosillo and 2 others bitched out at the end, so it didn't amount to anything. Now it is up to players like Torrado, Salcido, Sanchez, Cuahtemoc, Perez, etc. to put pressure on the league to get it done. As Chaco recently said, it doesn't effect the players in first division too much as they are making a decent living, but the players in the Liga de Ascenso are pretty fucked for the most part.

I'd think Sanchez and Cuauhtemoc would be two players who would actually follow through if they attempted to form a union. I recently heard that the owner of Monterrey was actually in favor of the pacto. Neutral

Glad Chivas is not in the Copa.

The "biggish" teams(Atlas, America, Pachuca etc) getting beat by second division teams who've invested less then half of what these big teams have invisted in their club is embarrassing. The we used a "B" squad is void, that's the point of investing in a big squad, having enough players to handle both competitions.

Gomez. Glad things are going well for him, when I heard Santos bought him I thought it was a good buy since they are usually competing in a couple of competitions. Don't think he'll be able to wrestle a starting spot away from Oribe when he comes back though.

Speaking of Americans, Beastly and Castillo really revamping their careers with their respective clubs. Beastly is one of Puebla's best players and Castillo has been playing really well for Xolos for quite a bit now.

Couple of teams play like that. Most famously there's Club America's infamous. "Get the ball, launch it to Chucho Benitez hopes he takes on three men and scores a goal." technique.

Of course there's also Tigres' "score a goal in the first couple of minutes, sit back and counter attack for the next 80 minutes" technique.

Oh and my favorite Chivas' "concede" strategy.

    Basanta. not worthy Boss.

@Che: Bit like Brazil. Lots of teams score one or two goals, and then spend the rest of the game countering. Sometimes games just descend into counterattack fests. Exciting to watch, but the lack of midfield elaboration is kinda depressing sometimes.

I would say that only Botafogo, Vasco, Fluminese, and Atletico Mineiro play proactive football.

Was just reminded that Leon's match next weekend won't be televised because they couldn't come to an agreement with TV Azteca.

What a load of shit one of the biggest clubs in the country comes back to the first division in 10 years and their first home game won't be on tv.

Azteca and Televisa can sit on it. They've monopolized the whole television industry in Mexico that it makes it impossible for the games to be televised by anyone except these two networks.

    Speaking of Telivisa.

I think you can use your imagination to figure out the rest yourself.
