HMRC are on twitter, that's a bit worrying...

Anyway, that first tweet about liquidation ensuring football continues at the Ibrox. Does that mean that a company could buy Rangers and the club continues without anything actually happening?

Not really, the club doesn't continue at all.

As soon as they're liquidated that's it, Rangers as we know it are finished. Gone are 140 years of history.

Then what happens is they will create a new club which will apply for entry into the SPL. SPL clubs vote on whether they are allowed in. If clubs vote against it, which would be in the best interest of the integrity of Scottish football, then they start at the bottom in Divison Three.

In the best interest of the integrity of Scottish football, indeed. But not in the best financial interests of Scottish football. That is going to be an interesting vote.

Yes. NewCo will buy all of Rangers' assets (after HMRC is satisfied of course), which include the tradename and trademarks. Nothing will change in that regard.

Ah well, always thought this would happen. I'm not sure what all the fuss about Rangers' history and all that is about though. Obviously it's a new company, making a fresh start, but it doesn't mean all the memories of the club disappear.

"The solemn promise I can make to Rangers fans today is that this club will continue as Rangers Football Club and will continue to play at Ibrox Stadium," said Yorkshireman Green.

Sad day for British football, disgusting seeing all these Celtic fans glorying in it as well. Have some compassion you heartless cunts.

One thing I don't understand is how the new company can keep the stadium. Is it not an asset of the business which is to be liquidated?

As long as the creditors are paid what they are owed, or paid what they agreed to be paid pursuant to a restructuring plan of some sort, all of the assets that remain can be bought by NewCo. Basically, NewCo will pay HMRC and whoever the other creditors are for the right to keep Ibrox, the tradename and trademarks. Otherwise, a liquidator will be appointed to auction off Ibrox.

I hope Whyte and Murray are both punished for what they've done, however we can still be proud of the team we had in the 80s/90s, even early 00s.

It's not the same dog though.

I remember a poll on the most popular Rangers forum where the majority voted they wouldn't support a newco as it simply wasn't the same club.

And, you do know it's not as simple as buying the assets? It will be HMRC's liquidators who do the selling. As far as I'm concerned the stadium name, the club name, the history, the players become free agents, everything goes.

The new season starts in 53 days. I can't see there being any sort of Rangers playing football next season to be perfectly honest.

No you can't. The team was purchased with money Rangers didn't have. They used tax evasion to build that team, the trophies will be stripped subsequently, so why should fans be proud?

I'll always at least have a soft spot for Rangers, much like Dumbarton & Petershill. But I've said before that I might be able to go to more games if we start off in the 3rd Division.

I should try to get fit for the new season, might get a place in Rangers' starting line-up in August.

That's nonsense. They will support the new club. It's only going to be a different legal entity. Everything else will be the same (except for the trophies).

And, you do know it's not as simple as buying the assets? It will be HMRC's liquidators who do the selling.

Yea, I just wrote that a few posts ago.

As far as I'm concerned the stadium name, the club name, the history, the players become free agents, everything goes.

Indeed. But who else is going to by the Ibrox? All the creditors really care about is getting repaid. If they get repaid to their satisfaction, they don't care who buys. NewCo is the most likely bidder to buy those assets. Nobody else has enough of a need for them to pay above firesale prices.

A fair amount of Gers fans seem to want to start again in Division 3, but I reckon Green and other SPL clubs may want us to stay. What I don't want is for the other clubs to have any control over our finances or starting points while keeping us up (sharing gate receipts for example).
