3-5-2 but the wingers are probably going to play very defensively. Kind of how Wigan lines up (not sure if they did it the whole season but definitely saw them line up like this a few times)

Pirlo will be the deepest midfielder, I doubt they'll play anyone as deep as him otherwise it'd ruin him if they ate up his space. I thought Italy had played a diamond midfield more than 3 at the back. They definitely have the personnel to play a diamond midfield from the start.

I wasn't suggesting 3 at the back with a diamond midfield btw.
That's just what they showed on the pre-game show that they'd be playing. But they did a straight midfield so I thought that's what you needed clarification on.

I find it hilarious Spain would rather start with no striker than Torres.

Great passing play by Spain there, Italy's 5 in the midfield is clogging up the midfield pretty well.

Alonso's passing is just sublime. Even the shorter passes seem to have that special-ness about them. I'm not sure what it is. Perhaps it's how they're always perfectly weighted.

Spain has pretty much erased the use of a cross by playing with no striker, these dudes aren't going to get a head on the ball in the box.

If Spain had a striker they'd probably have a goal by now, too many times in threatening positions inside the box with no final man to pass it to.
