you mean the one against us? come on now.. you telling me that wasnt a red card?? he went in two footed, just cause he got the ball doesnt mean it wasnt a dangerous tackle, if he doesnt get the ball its a leg breaker. also going in like that is gonna stop nani from being able to challenge for the ball since if he does he is gonna get a broken leg

Nah he went in legs apart, I thought it was great.

We'll agree to disagree in this case but regarding the Young situation you are wrong.

Nope just like I said - his legs were apart, I remember it perfectly.

So you expect Kompany to stand off? Confused Nani will just nick it past him and be through on goal..

Listen to commentary. Even a pussy like Nani recognises it as a fair tackle.

    Wrong, Nani jumped.

That's how you dominate an attacker, Nani will think twice about running into that beast again. It's partly psychological, it's the art of defending..

What could Kompany have done differently in that situation with a 50/50 chance at the ball and Nani running towards it?

ahm he left the ground.... his legs started apart but came together as he went for the ball Suspect are you blind??

he could have not lunged in.. lmao, he has many options, things like stand off and defend properly or slide in with 1 foot without leaving the ground. that was a ridiculously dangerous tackle, lucky for Nani he opted out of holding onto the ball or else his legs would be pointing where they shouldnt be pointing Neutral that is a disgusting challange and should never be accepted

commentators are irrelevant, the guy is an idiot too "sometimes you have to have your studs showing, you cant always go in sideways"... LMAO!!! no you dont always have to show your studs.. if you are showing your studs then you have done something wrong and should not be making that challenge. thats a head on collision that kompany wins by using a dangerous tackle, if you think thats not a red then you dont know the rules

rofl mate shut up now, you clearly dont know the fucking rules

art of defending is not jumping into the ball with both studs showing and feets off the ground Laughing thats not how you dominate a attacker, thats how you injure a attacker. as i said lucky for nani he saw it coming and jumped out the way

I was pointing out that what the commentator is saying is true, It's difficult to go into a tackle like that with studs planted on the ground, Kompany did his best to go in with them pointing down.

So what if he left the ground?

There is nothing in the rules about 2 footed tackles twat.

hey atleast you learnt something today:

Soccer Red Card - A player must be shown a Red Card and "sent off" (i.e., made to leave the field) for the 7 offenses listed below. A player shown a "Red Card" & sent off may not be replaced during that game (i.e., his team must play a player "short" for the rest of the game; however, in some leagues a player may be replaced if he is ejected for receiving a second Yellow Card). The 7 offenses for which a player must be shown a Red Card and sent off are:

serious foul play (includes any use of excessive force or brutality against an opponent when challenging for the ball. Examples include a dangerous slide tackle from behind, or an "over the top tackle" in which a player raises his foot so the cleats could hit a player, or a two footed tackle that takes down the opponent. FIFA has broadened this definition by saying that "Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force and endangering the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play. For current rules visit fifa.com, Laws of the Game. The above quote is from Questions and Answers, Additional Instructions for Referees). The rules now include "Decision 4", which says: "A tackle, which endangers the safety of an opponent, must be sanctioned as serious foul play".

Neutral direct quote from the rule book:
    http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/affederation/generic/81/42/36/lawsofthegame_2011_12_en.pdf

    Serious foul play
A player is guilty of serious foul play if he uses excessive force or brutality
against an opponent when challenging for the ball when it is in play.
A tackle that endangers the safety of an opponent must be sanctioned as
    serious foul play.

Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the
front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force
and endangering the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play.

Advantage should not be applied in situations involving serious foul play unless
there is a clear subsequent opportunity to score a goal. The referee must send
off the player guilty of serious foul play when the ball is next out of play.

A player who is guilty of serious foul play should be sent off and play is
restarted with a direct free kick from the position where the offence occurred
(see Law 13 – Position of free kick) or a penalty kick (if the offence occurred
    inside the offender’s penalty area).

i will let you not reply anymore to save face, i am giving you an out. i dont know why you are even stuck on this 2 footed thing :S the rules clearly show what kompany did is a straight red

I think the key phrase is "excessive force and endangering the safety of an opponent".

There is nothing saying a 2 footed tackle is a direct red.

2 footed tackle is a part of that...you cant go in 2 footed with studs showing and not endanger the safety of an opponent. if both feet are off the ground you have no control over yourself

    factual evidence confused

how can you prove with factual evidence that this tackle used excessive force?

IMO the rule is open to interpretation.

A pointed out by our chums at Two Footed Tackle, Diving Ashley Young (spotted in action vs Montenegro at Wembley) has definite meme potential. Here’s the original photo:
