I think that Bellamy on form is better than him. Just.

Downing has a better cross as well, which is just perfect for our beast of a battering ram, Andrew Carroll.

What do you mean? The thread isn't about if Liverpool is a top 6 team or now, so I didn't want to start argue.

I really hate that line. People use it as a way to justify liking a player that is either injured all of the time or just really inconsistent.

What a ridiculous question. Look at how many goals he has scored for an average team. Put him in a side that can consistently create chances (Fulham did score their 9th, 10th, and 11th away goals this season today), and he would have put away 20 in the league this season.

You guys can't seriously think that he wouldn't have a spot in the teams in the league. Only place I think he would really have to battle would be Manchester United and Manchester City -- but even then, with the amount of goals he scores, he could find a spot in the United set up.

20 league goals a season is not as easy as you make it out to be. Especially considering he would rotate in pretty much every top 6 squad. Last season nobody got over 20 league goals correct me if I'm wrong. The only top 6 sides he could maybe be considered a starting player would be Chelsea or Arsenal.

People said the same about Carroll joining Liverpool "he will play alongside better players and score for fun because Downing is the best crosser in the league". People said Gervinho would rape EPL teams because he got 29 goals/assists in his previous season with Lille. It just doesn't work like that mi amigo.

i think we cannot like say someone that can score many goals in a low team can automatically score just as many or even mor ein better team look at player like carroll

i think depends on quality of the player and not statistics. i am jus tbeing honest i dont see dempsey as technical magician player, or amazingley quick or incredible passer. but he is solid at all these things but not outstanding at any. im always feel that those top teamsa re looking for players that can excel at one or two of those facets and doesnt need to be amazing at the rest. look at walcott and kalou these players are fast like usain bolt but have no technique or intelligence. but their pace offers something to those teams and is a valuable thing

maybe u can say dempsey offers good consiostent finishing but isnt that why those top teams have player like van persie and rooney etc

so idk im hope i didnt offend steve he is my friend Clint Dempsey, good enough for a top 6 team? - Page 2 1371890812 but i do think dempsey can starting in team like tottenham or newcastle. its just that if a team like arsenal or most likely chelsea needed a player they probably go for some famous player from the continent

As I said earlier Ade, Bale and Lennon would be in front of him in his position.

I'd take him at Tottenham, probably do better for us than Pienaar did. He'd fit in well. But Point, what if Lennon is injured again? We haven't had adequate cover for the right wing, and IMO Dempsey would step up to the plate when called upon. I'd say do a deal for him in the summer.

    Why I said bench warmer...

Said all along he'd not make the 1st team over the players I said. Didn't say he wasn't good enough.

I don't think he'd be a great player for a top 6 team, but I definitely think he could be a useful squad player for one or two of them, especially Arsenal and Chelsea.

I'm not saying that 20 goals in a season is easy (last season didn't RVP and Berbatov end up with 20 goals -- besides the point, just answering your question). I'm just saying that with the season he is having this year, he could have scored 20 if he was awarded the same amount of time on the field with a top side (he apparently has played all but 6 minutes in the league for Fulham this year). Fulham have some good attacking players, but they clearly aren't a top side, and struggle to create chances in games.

Dempsey is good at creating his own shot, but he is at his best when he is finding space off of teammates. Timing his runs and picking the open spots are his strengths, and with other top players, that is a lot easier than with a smaller side.

He's also doing this all from the midfield. He was played out of position against Chelsea -- because he is not a striker. He's not a traditional wide midfielder, but he is at his best when he plays out on the left, and just roams, kind of like Rooney.

Here is a stat that popped up after his goal against Chelsea. Now imagine if he were at a bigger club, like the rest of these players (remember that his first season was a half season, and that he could still have a goal given back to him from the dubious goal panel).

Dempsey is at 49 EPL goals in 180 appearances (6 years)

Giggs got his 50th in his 7th year and 235th appearance
Scholes got his 50th in his 8th year and over 200th appearance
Gerrard got his 50th in his 10th year and over 250th appearance
Lampard got his 50th in his 9th year and over 250th appearance

You're right. He isn't really a standout at any of those things. But neither is a player like Chicharito, and look at the impact he had in his first season with Manchester United. I'd say that Dempsey right now is a better, more polished player than Hernandez (subject to change over time, of course), and could have done something similar this season with a bigger club.

Two problems with him and United (now). One, there isn't a need at his position. Two, he would run into Rooney too often. But if you guys had not purchased Ashley Young this season, I think he could have played out wide there, rotating with Nani an Valencia.
