Re: Lottery Win
I would take 1 million, put the rest in the bank and then just go crazy and buy loads of stuff.

Re: Lottery Win
Probably invest in Newport IOW FC, pay off my parents' mortgage, buy myself a better car and buy myself a house.
Then put the rest in a high interest savings account and live off the interest.

Savings accounts? Inflation would dwarf that.

Re: Lottery Win
Put aside a couple of million to organise a Playmaker Gathering
Then I'd put most in the bank and use the rest to travel with Julia and buy a nice house in New Zealand, a nice one in England, a nice one in Germany

So what? If we're talking about a lottery win the hundreds of millions, the interest would still be plenty to live off of.

Re: Lottery Win
You could just get an investment firm to invest in very low risk stuff for you.....if you trust that kind of thing.

U.S. Treasury bonds are currently yielding about 3%. So if you cleared, say, $100 million after taxes, and put $90 million in the bank after spending $10 million on booz, smack, prostitutes, a private jet, a yacht and a mansion, you could earn $2.7 million per year on interest.

Inflation is above 3% though
Obviously in the short term, it wouldn't really matter to people like us, if we just wanted to stick with what we had and spend it over our life.
Though maybe in the future if inflation spirals then it might.

Re: Lottery Win
Probably frivolously spend some on un-needed things, then buy property for myself and family members, cars etc. Clear bills, all the clichéd stuff. I'd think about buying my club, though if I did I'd let them do all the work and I'll just put up some money. I wouldn't want to be an Abramovich
It costs more than that.Glen Damon wrote:I would buy myself a position on the moderating council on this website.

Re: Lottery Win
Not at first. I would want to travel the world, do lots of stuff like that. Then maybe when I was older I would think more about investing my money...which I guess would be a job in itself. Would never go back to 9-5 though.

Here, savings accounts earn you like around 1%. Inflation is about 4%. By the time you are like 50/60 years old, your money would have lost a lot of value. If you want something that's low risk and that can keep up with inflation, I would recommend municipal bonds and corporate bonds.

I remember when I left school and was without a job, I didn't mind it. However my life is so much better now I have one.
