Fuck sake, had to do it like this because Barcelona doesn't have many established Spanish defenders. Neutral

Pretty sure he did. He also said he would play for England if they called him up IIRC.

Naa he can't so he didn't, there's some stupid UK law over needing to be educated here for at least 5 years rather than working if ur from the eu I think

You bring up something that has always perplexed me. Brazil and Argentina are fucking football factories. Why on earth would their clubs ever need to purchase foreigners? This is especially perplexing because there is a Mexican playing in Argentina 2nd division.

And it's not like he's even very good, the only reason foreigners should take up a native's spot is if he's clearly better than any other player you have in that position. Laughing

I dunno, they're a flair player factory belt no doubt, but those countries don't seem to produce as many good defensive players or GKs. Or am I just totally wrong and the GKs are up to the standard of the rest of the players?

The GK's and defenders are up to standard for their league I think. Rei could clarify.

And Brazil and Argentina do get foreigners from South America. I guess they don't really scout European countries because they have no reason to. It's expensive to send scouts across the world especially when there are probably dozens of kids as good as him playing around in the streets around club's city alone. All the top talent worth bringing in probably is scouted by European clubs as well, and I know where I'd rather go to. So really there is no point. If a club really wanted to do some foreign scouting, they'd go to other South American countries.

I think it'd be more interesting to see how many Brazilian teams have bought players back from European clubs(like Fred, Ronaldo, Adriano etc.), and how good teams would be without them.

Bringing out stereotypes Zzonked. oh no you didn\'t

All the goalkeeper's in Brazil's top flight and I would guess most in the 2nd division are Brazilian. I would say the same for 90% of Argentina as a guess.

The only player Brazil really doesn't have and has to import is that foot-on-the-ball Riquelme-esque playmaker (Conca, Petkovic, Montillo, Bertoglio etc.). Ganso is the only Brazilian player who plays like that.

It's a mixture of factors, Che. Brazil produces a lot of good players, but with the high number of players leaving, the talent pool in the country if still deep, but not deeper than that is all the other leagues. If you can bring in a foreigner who will make your team better than it's just a sound choice to make.

Anyway, it doesn't matter much right now since there can only be a maximum of 3 foreign players on your squad.

I also think the scouting in the country tends to be a bit insular. That's just my impression though. I look at a player like Jobson who went off to play in South Korea, and came back to Brazil as a total unknown. He single-handedly kept Botafogo up.

He'd already be a star in Europe if it wasn't for his drug problems.

The majority of GKs produced in S. America are terrible.

And yeah man, need to work on that scouting thing, when you're letting guys like Deco and Pepe go there's a problem. shifty

Deco was known since he played for Corinthians but his time of player - deep-lying passing midfielder - is an endangered species in Brazil. Most defensive midfielders in Brazil are either centerbacks masquerading as midfielders (eg. Gilberto Silva) or energizer bunnies (like Ramires or Melo). Deco pretty much had to leave to develop. Only reason Hernanes had success is because he's versatile.

    Also...

The Catalans or Catalonians are the people from, or with origins in, Catalonia that form a historical nationality in Spain.
