I disagree.

Is he fuck, they were an exceptional partnership in their prime.El_indian wrote:I randomly came across these vids of Torres answering questions on Chelsea TV.
One question was best midfielder you've played with: Gerrard got the snub and he went with Silva
Another question was best defender he's played against, he got asked this twice: Both times he said JT & Carvalho as a partnership. I remember in interviews he did at Liverpool (and possibly in his book) he would always mention Carvalho, so he's just throwing JT in there for the Chelsea fans
Jesus, don't say that, they'll collectively have a stroke. I remember having a conversation with Liverpool fans in 2009 who were arguing that Gerrard was better than Lionel Messi, and it was taken as a matter of fact by these morons that he was better than Cristiano Ronaldo. David Silva isn't even in Gerrard's league in the eyes of the Liverpool fans.Ché Guayaba wrote:The Silva comment is no laughing matter, Silva is easily better than Gerrard is or even ever was.

Strange, because I'm a Liverpool fan, yet I believe Silva > Gerrard. Messi and Ronaldo > Gerrard.
It is only surprising that Torres said this because Gerrard is the one who got the best out of him. Doubt anyone else has as many assists to Torres goals.

You believe Silva is better than Gerrard ever was?

Very different types of players, but yeah I believe he is.

Don't think any Liverpool fan on here would say Gerrard > Silva.
Scott. wrote:We'll see about that, RR.
However, do you agree with me that it was a bit surprising that Torres didn't say Gerrard, considering how well they played together?
But then again, I suppose he took the question literally, but even so, Xavi and Iniesta are better than Silva in some aspects.

Torres says Silva is the best midfielder he's played with, and it is a 'snub' to Gerrard; the other week I was watching ESPN's "analysis" ahead of of the Liverpool-Arsenal game, Steven McManaman said that Stuart Pearce giving Scott Parker the captaincy was a slap in the face to Gerrard, and he couldn't understand why Pearce had treated Gerrard in this way.
Parker getting the captaincy is no more a slap in the face to Gerrard than it is to Cole, it's not as though Gerrard was incumbent captain, and Torres saying that Silva is the best midfielder he's played with is more of a snub to Alonso, Mata, Lampard, Mascherano, Xavi and Iniesta as it is to Gerrard.

Gerrard did get the best out of Torres though, you must admit. Their understanding was phenomenal, and the best understanding Torres has ever gotten from another team-mate, imo.

He probably wasn't even in Torres' mind, after all Torres he's Spanish and has played with the likes of Iniesta and Xavi.El_indian wrote:One question was best midfielder you've played with: Gerrard got the snub and he went with Silva

I agree, I just thought it was funny he was scared to single out Carvalho on Chelsea TV. He has said Carvalho in most other interviews and also in his book.
The question was 'best defender'.
El_indian wrote:OK it's not a snub - that was a bad word to use. I answered this above.
IDK what it was, it might have been 'best midfielder you've played with'....he would naturally think of the partnerships he's had.
