I remember having a conversation with Liverpool fans in 2009 who were arguing that Gerrard was better than Lionel Messi, and it was taken as a matter of fact by these morons that he was better than Cristiano Ronaldo. David Silva isn't even in Gerrard's league in the eyes of the Liverpool fans.

I don't know why Gerrard gets this special treatment, as though the world revolves around him. Torres says Silva is the best midfielder he's played with, and it is a 'snub' to Gerrard; the other week I was watching ESPN's "analysis" ahead of of the Liverpool-Arsenal game, Steven McManaman said that Stuart Pearce giving Scott Parker the captaincy was a slap in the face to Gerrard, and he couldn't understand why Pearce had treated Gerrard in this way.

Parker getting the captaincy is no more a slap in the face to Gerrard than it is to Cole, it's not as though Gerrard was incumbent captain, and Torres saying that Silva is the best midfielder he's played with is more of a snub to Alonso, Mata, Lampard, Mascherano, Xavi and Iniesta as it is to Gerrard.

No, it's not a surprise at all, he's played with much better midfielders than Gerrard. Not saying Gerrard is just being honest, but I am surprised he didn't say Xavi or Iniesta, as they're both better than him, or Lampard or Mata, given that they're his current team.

Gerrard did get the best out of Torres though, you must admit. Their understanding was phenomenal, and the best understanding Torres has ever gotten from another team-mate, imo.

Gerrard did get the best out of Torres though, you must admit. Their understanding was phenomenal, and the best understanding Torres has ever gotten from another team-mate, imo.

The best years of Torres's club career (and it's difficult not to talk about it in the past tense now) came ahead of Gerrard, for sure, but he was also ahead of Alonso and Mascherano at that time, and it was only 3 years. Even within those, once Alonso left his form dropped off, and he never really hit the heights for Spain chiefly because the side was built around David Villa.

I think it's just as likely that his career happened hit its peak around that 2-3 year period and dropped off because of injuries and a generally weakening supporting cast than it was because of Steven Gerrard. There are no other strikers whose career Gerrard had this effect on, if it was Gerrard who caused Torres' success you'd expect him to have replicated it with other strikers.

I agree, I just thought it was funny he was scared to single out Carvalho on Chelsea TV. He has said Carvalho in most other interviews and also in his book.

The question was 'best midfielder' as well, not 'midfielder you had the best partnership with' as well, so how is it a snub to Gerrard to pick a better midfielder than him?

With regard to the Terry-Carvalho partnership, maybe respect for his club came into it, but the strength of a defensive two is pertinent, 2 Carvalhos or 2 Terrys wouldn't be as good as the partnership of the two.

He did... That's why he chose Silva

Kenny is absolutely woeful, hopefully the owners realise this. If the things carry on going the way they are, he should not be manager next season. 2 wins from 11? He never learns either, continuesly playing Downing over Maxi. He will always be a legend for what he's done in the past and for winning us the CC, but I don't think he's rigjht for the long term.

Fuck it, might as well sack Kenny now. And sell all his summer signings bar Enrique.
