"Sad news to see Capello step down. Good man and a Good manager. #ThanksForEverything"
What a classy response from a classy man.

I seen his 'rant'.
Isn't he the head of the English supporters or something?

It's hardly racist saying they want the next manager to be English

Nationality over Merit? Sounds bad to me. Only one English manager for the job, and if they can't get him appointing any other English manager would be a disaster.

Take away the moral argument and its pretty stupid, a foreign manager like Hiddink or who knows even Mourinho, would have a much better chance of winning a tournament than Redknapp or any other English manager. I mean if there was an outstanding English candidate then sure pick him, but there really isnt

It's against the law, to take in account someones nationality when recruiting someone for a job.
So the FA are discriminating against non - English/British people by saying they want an English/British manager.
Am I right?

Re: Capello Quits
When people say they 'want an English manager' they mean they want Redknapp, there's no need to say it in such an xenophobic way because they don't want any other Englishman but Rednapp. I mean the other options are Roy Hodgson, Sam Allerdyce and Stuart Pearce, nobody wants those guys, especially with much better forgien managers available, but they're the only others options apart from Redknapp. Alan Pardew has ruled himself out as well.

Such ignorant association.
Barton wrote:Let's just assume Harry Redknapp dosen't want the England job, the only Englishman who is actually in contention for the job. We would have Stuart Pearce incharge, someone i don't rate highly enough in comparisson to the likes of Guus Hidink who is in contention and a realistic target.
I think there are English managers who can do the job. I think Capello did a good job, better than that of English managers who have been failures...but for me that was down to shocking appointments e.g. I have no clue how McClaren got the job...O'Neill isn't English but he is British....he would've been great.
We could appoint some random foreign manager....and then being crap doesn't mean that all foreign managers are....in the same way that not all English managers are crap.
I agree that.....the prospect of Pearce in charge is not particularly pleasing, and Hiddink sounds like a better prospect. Wouldn't say that Pearce is the best England have to offer though. I think if we can get a good English/British candidate then go for it....if not then I wouldn't have a problem with someone foreign. I wouldn't substitute quality for the England job because of nationality.

Capello did a better job than any of his predecessors, including Sir Alfred Ramsey.

If you do not succeed at the main tournaments, when it actually matters, then you cannot claim to have done well.
I agree....in qualification Capello did an extremely good job, I couldn't have asked for more. He was very good.
But he failed at the World Cup. Alf Ramsey won the World Cup. There's no comparison.

Screwed up his team management though. Although you can't blame him for getting fed up with the ego squad.

Ramsey had a goal allowed for him which didn't cross the line, Capello had a goal disallowed which probably did cross the line
Ramsey had home advantage, Capello had to play on another continent
Ramsey faced half of Germany, Capello faced all of Germany and most of Poland and Turkey as well
Ramsey faced Eusebio in the Semi Final and he had 4 goals disallowed, after Portugal had been forced to move stadium at the last minute
Give Capello all the advantages Ramsey had, and give Ramsey all of Capello's disadvantages and I'm sure things would have turned out a bit differently.

True. Picked all the oldies, either bottled it or just made the complete wrong decisions.

The players obvciously. Capello went from being mr cool, calculating genius, to screaming mad-man after 5 minutes with the Englabd squad in the World Cup.

Would be funny if you weren't actually trying to argue a point of discrimination.
