It's not impossible, it was not done through a court of law and because of that the FA were able to make their judgement on the length of the ban.

You had 14 days to appeal to a higher instance. If you had you could have argued against the decision and whatever was decided by the independent commission could easily have been irrelevant. Suarez suspension would have been put on hold until the appeal process had been completed.

And we decided that it would be a lengthy and needless process. Considering Suarez would more than likely be distracted by having the case hanging over him. Look at Terry, his performance has dropped since he was accused of racial abuse. His has been delayed until the end of the Euro's. What happens if it gets delayed further, that will go into next season.

If we were to appeal directly to the FA, we were only able to appeal to shorten the ban. If we chose to appeal and the FA decided it was a 'frivolous appeal', it would be lengthened. As the likelihood of it being overturned was nil, we decided against that.

So clearing his name became irrelevant all of a sudden then?

Not true. The FA would have had no choice but to let you appeal the decision if you had anything at all that could prove or indicate that the independent commission had made a mistake or that the final decision wasn't sufficiently backed up.

The Independent Committee found Suarez guilty. Not the FA. It was not their investigation. Therefore the verdict was made and that was that. The ban was the only thing we could appeal.

The FA handed down the ban on the basis of the commission. If you had a shred of evidence that the commission had been subject to procedural errors or procedural unfairness (IE a man's word against another). You could have appealed the decision to the FA under rule K of the FA rules.
