Ahly, help explain some things to me about Egyptian football.
Zamalek is from Giza, a city completely different from Cairo, but they play in Al-Ahly's ground?
Why don't they make a new ground, and does all of Cairo support Ahly and all of Giza support Zamalek? Do Giza fans have to travel to Cairo for home games? Isn't that some distance?
Why does Alexandria have no notable clubs? Alexandria is a huge city and they never once beaten Zamalek and Ahly's dominance.
Seems like Al-Masry is traditionally the third biggest club in Egypt, why have they never beaten the above's dominance?
Why are clubs named after companies like Petrojet and Arab Contractors and why are there military and police based clubs? (reminds me of how in the cold war, Legia Warszawa was the military club and they could conscript any player they want to the military and effectively make them serve time by playing for Legia)

Plenty of people in Cairo support Zamalek. There are more Ahly supporters in Cairo, but there are still a lot of Zamalek fans. There are probably more Zamalek fans in Cairo than in Giza. They don't play in Al Ahly's ground, they both play in Cairo International Stadium. Both teams were supposed to be working on new stadiums, but I'm not sure how that's going at the moment. I have no ideas why Alexandria doesn't have a major club. Al Masry is not the third largest club, that's Ismaily, and they compete every season for the title and have often upstaged the other two clubs. I have no clue why clubs are called that, but I assume it's because their namesake organizations are the only ones with enough money and interest in investing in football clubs.

So Zamalek have effectively migrated from Giza to Cairo? Are the more of a Cairo club than a Giza club then? Who do people in Giza support then? I forgot about Ismaily, but it still begs the question, how hard could it possibly be to knock Zamalek and Ahly off the perch? Why can't a country with such a rich footballing history and such a huge fanbase not have a better league? Is it entirely the fault of the FA? Could this even be the precursor to actual changes in Egyptian football?

Zamalek and Ahly play their matches at the Cairo International Stadium. They both rent the stadium because their own stadiums aren't big enough to host matches.
Zamalek (the place) is a small island on the Nile. The HQ of Ahly is located in Zamalek. Zamalek (the club) is not located in Zamalek (the place). Both Ahly and Zamalek are in Cairo though. They are both Cairo clubs.
Alexandria does have a notable club: Ittihad. They also have other decent clubs like Harras el Hodoud. Masry is traditionally the 4th biggest club in Egypt. Ismaily is 3rd and they have won the league a few times.
There are a lot of clubs that are owned by corporations (your Petrojets, Arab Contracts, etc.). Then there are other clubs owned by the government (military to be exact) like Harras Hodoud, Police Union, etc.
Unlike Poland, players are free to play for any club and the military teams can't force a play to play for them.

ok, thanks, wouldn't mind for my other questions to be answered, then I'd be satisfied.

Ahly and Zamalek were the first clubs and have much more support than the rest of the league. Traditionally, the only teams that can challenge the two are Ismaily, Ittihad, and Masry. But those clubs have been going through a lot of financial troubles. You have Ahly and Zamalek ending up signing a lot of Ismaily's best players because of these financial difficulties. So most of the talent is in those two top teams.
Recently though, the corporation owned clubs (like Petrojet) don't have the same problems so they can attract players and keep them better. They have caused Ahly and Zamalek plenty of trouble in the league, but they don't have enough talent as a club like Ismaily. If Ismaily can get in a better financial situation, I think they can easily challenge Ahly. We have several clubs already challenge Zamalek and finish above them in the league, but they haven't been able to overthrow Ahly. The competition in the league has been getting tougher though as the years go by.

To me it seems Egypt is one of those few countries that would be better off with a smaller top division league? Like Scotland?

It used to be that way. We used to have like 13 or 15 teams a few years ago. One season, they increased it to 16 teams. Then last season, they didn't relegate the bottom 3. So this season, we have 19 teams. They will bring it back down to 16 next season though.
The FA are stupid and corrupt though. They only reason they made it 19 and didn't relegate the bottom 3 is because one of those teams was Ittihad. They have a large support and their fans were causing problems due to their team's performance. The FA and the Military were scared of the fans going crazy if they got relegated.
It's like the Argentina FA not doing relegation so that River Plate don't get relegated and have a chance of staying up next season.

Egyptian clubs should leave the FA and start their own Egyptian Super League separate from the FA.

We just need to replace the FA. They are corrupt like the former regime too. Sack Samir Zaher and the rest.

Egyptian 19yr old, Mohamed Salah, is set for a medical at FC Basel. It's rumored that FC Basel are willing to buy him from Arab Contractors for €3.5M...

Adriano and Corinthians have parted ways by mutual consent. Still hasn't lost the weight needed to play well.

He was a huge talent (pardon the pun). I seriously don't understand how that can happen though.

Ahmed Hegazy’s move to Fiorentina may be off. Ismaily are expecting an offer ($2.6M) from an English PL club. Agent has 5 days to finalize.
