Re: The Atheist Thread
How often do you genuinely discuss it in here? It's mainly just bashing and arguing.Lu❣s Suarez wrote:If this thread has no point, neither does the Man United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool threads.
Also those internet memes are not there to bash religion. They are there to discuss points of why we don't believe in god.
Also there is lots of discussion to be had over religion. To begin, In Science, you have to observe, theorize, test, then modify hypothesis until you get the result. The problem with History is that you cannot test a hypothesis, you cannot simply make a model earth and test things, but there is one thing you can use for testing - our planet and all it's history and people. Thus makes way for why I find religion a very interesting subject. It is so because it is interesting to study how the environment shaped peoples beliefs in a time before the scientific method and modern science, and in turn, how those same beliefs influenced peoples decision making when the very same environment changed over time. Religion is also much like language and the human race, always evolving.
The football fans actually discuss their club in those threads.

WE EXIST.
That is enough reason to believe that life is possible, and that it could occur on other planets. Have you found a proof of a god's existence?

They are treated differently because they act differently. For example persecuting homosexuals because of the bible. Any why do they believe in the bible? Because it can't be disproven? Doesn't seem right to me at all.

Fair enough. Maybe there is a God out there but all the current religions are just false. Or maybe there is only one true religion out there.
Yeah that's the logical stance to take, if you understand that, do you just believe because of Pascals Wager?
No. First of all I don't agree with Pascals Wager. Pascals Wager assumes that solely the belief in God is enough to send you to heaven. I believe it takes more than that. I believe in a God because the theory makes the most sense to me at this point. Out of all the religions, Islam makes the most sense to me, which is why I choose to follow it.
My point of that post was to say that just because you find holes in some or even most religions, doesn't make all religions false. Furthermore, it doesn't make the existence of God impossible.

Re: The Atheist Thread
Peoples' assumptions on his wager are based on the idea that Pascal never read the works of Paul's 1 Corinthians. People play the "percentages" game in every other part of life other than religion. However, when it comes to religion, they ignore the publicly accepted (and misunderstood) "wager." As such, it's suggesting that the decision to ignore God is a moral one, not a rational/percentage based one.MickStupp wrote:Care to elaborate?InGlennyWeTrust wrote:Pascal's Wager is grossly misinterpreted.
Does that make sense?

Pascals wager also dictates that you live accordingly to that religion I think, so it isn't just belief. You chose to follow Islam? You weren't born into an Islamic family then? Or maybe you were and it's just some happy coincidence.
I'm not disagreeing with your point, I'm just saying it's not a good reason to believe.

That's a suggestion, but not proof.
What makes me suggest God exists? That the universe had a beginning and it needed something to trigger the Big Bang. Furthermore, the universe was created in such unimaginable odds that it suggests purpose/design. Those are my reasonings.
