I score, they go up the other end and score - 50 minutes of me battering them and my strikers suddenly forgetting how to shoot - I score again, they go up the other end from kickoff and score.

same here. it really iritates me because it gives me players bad ratings 5.8 and thereabouts. i have to tell my players to work the ball into the box before every match, and they still shoot long about half the time
