I've had the same opinion when he said it about Ipswich, even when Barcelona were moaning about Arsenal/Inter and all other kinds of teams.
It's not about England, it's the principle.

You play the same style 10 times against a team like that and, at the most, you'll probably get one win.Lux wrote:polska. wrote:Is he wrong? No.
Yes
He is exaggerating, plus he makes out like Spain's style is better....yet they lost.

Possession at half was somehing like 72-28. (Don't remember the exact digits but I know it was 7( ) - 2( ) in favour of Spain.
'nuff said.

It's pretty lame to see a team park the buss in a friendly.

Pretty lame seeing a team Be told how to play by a bunch of football purists.
We played ugly, we won. Problem, Spain?

Oh so we should go and attack them from the off and get ripped apart whilst being humiliated as much as we were against Germany last year? NO THANKS.
Friendly or not we want to win, especially against World champions Spain and we did what we knew we had to do to keep them out, and did it successfully. Sorry for finding a way to keep them out and beat them that wasn't 'beautiful' football. We're not technically gifted like Spain, so to try and play like that would be football suicide. We did it in a friendly to see if we could pull it off against them (defeat wouldn't matter) and now we know against the Spains of the world if we set up like we did then we have a chance in major tournaments. I'm sorry it's not the kind of football that you apparently absolutely HAVE to play and that doesn't please some of you, but Capello got it spot on tactically on Saturday. I wish people would get off their high horse and stop saying 'oh it must be this certain type of football that you have to play every time you play a match'. Different teams need different tactics and ways to play against them to stop them from beating you.Yes they had more possession, loads more. BUT the only stat that matters is the score-line! and on that occasion it said 'England 1-0 Spain'. I also heard that Spain's shots on target was similar to what we had, despite having 20 odd shots on goal. So STFU AND MOVE ON.

You have to understand that friendlies offer international coaches a chance to rotate their best squads and try different tactics, it's not like 'ah well, i'm not arsed about a friendly anyway, go out there and enjoy yourselves lads'. People under estimate the importance of friendlies.

You can't choose how you play against Spain, especially when your most influential players in the midfield/attack are not playing.
You defend in numbers, because if you don't you will concede goals.
You can't moan about it, it's as much a part of football as anything else. Tactics are what make football unpredictable....if everyone played into Spain's hands every game, then Spain would win every game.
I know what sounds more lame.
I definitely think that England can improve, with our strongest team we could bring the game to any team. This has rarely been shown at the highest level but....something always seems to go wrong....on or off the pitch, players or officials...the players coming of age at the right time are promising, and some can help improve the team technically.

Does anyone think Rooney would have made a positive difference for England in the game?

It's a little easier. You get to start off with a freekick, so you can at least score that. But I have trouble holding Spain back.

People think this result somehow proves Stoke can easily beat Barcelona at the Brittania
