It's not hypocritical for the law to tell people not to kill someone, and the Judiciary to kill people who commit crimes any more than it's hypocritical for the law to tell people not to imprison people, and then imprison people who commit crimes. The hypocrisy argument is a complete red herring.
Murder is completely different to kidnap. Especially a kidnap where they've not even treated you badly.
And where do we draw the line? Is it only for murder? What about rapists? What about paedophiles?

Yes, it is a much more serious crime, so it warrants a much more serious punishment, in order to deter others.
Rapists should be imprisoned, and being a paedophile isn't a crime. Raping a child should carry a prison sentence though, perhaps the death penalty for killing one.

Exactly, when I told my parents that the mental condition of being a pedophile isn't a crime, they looked at me in a shocked manner, it's acting upon those thoughts that's illegal.

It all comes down to one thing. If you have seen The Green Mile, did this make you sad/cry or not?
(For the record "Titanic soundtrack" doesn't mean there's any Celine Dion in that video)

Yeah a much more serious crime of life in prison. Not death. Who is anyone to decide if someone should live or die?

Politicians, Doctors, Soldiers, their commanders, they all decide if people should live or die already. Extending that to Judges and Juries, I don't have a massive problem with that.

Don't agree, I have a massive problem with that. Nobody has a right to end somebodies life (unless that person is endangering the lives of others at that point of course).

Why not?

Because why should someone decide if someone should live or die. It's not their place to decide. Doctors don't, they make decisions that could change the fate of a person, but they don't make the decision to kill someone. That is illegal. Soldiers are 'protecting' the country, which I have already said is acceptable if someone is at risk because of another person.
Why do you think it is alright for someone to end the life of someone?
What if someone is sentenced to death and it turns out they were innocent after they had been murdered?

I can see what RR means, in a way they're all "playing God". People don't have a problem with this because people put their trust in them, Doctors (we'll leave Harold Shipman out of this) save lives rather than take them away, soldiers are, like you say, there to protect. They're never seen as the type of people to abuse their power.
Trouble is in this case, it's not as black & white. Lawyers are people who do abuse their power. They don't give a monkey's who's right and who's wrong, it's their job to fight for whoever's corner they've been put in. As you say, if someone is innocent but their lawyer does a crappy job in defending them and they ended up being given the death penalty, that would be ludicrous. Same as with the Casey Anthony trial - if the prosecution do a crappy job, the guilty get away with it. But nobody will ever know if she's 100% guilty either way, only her.
Unless there's 100% concrete evidence that somebody committed such a heinous act, the death penalty shouldn't even be considered. And of course, each case is different. This problem will never be solved.
