I wish I didn't know ahead of time what was going to happen (book), just to get a feel for what you all felt when it played out on screen.

I watched my chum react to it for the first time and it was good.
As for complaints, just trust the series. The next half of the book was by far the best of anything so far, so the next season should probably be the same.

Doesn't seem too torn up about it. Maybe because her mind broke and she became an American from the South.

That chick is hilarious.
So close to seeing them..yet so far. Would have been an incredible moment.

Surely they could have found a better actor than Andy Carroll?

This comes off a bit as being unconventional for the sake of it. A lot of the underlying tension that had made these last three seasons so great has just been entirely eliminated. The Lannisters have basically won the war now and I guess we're just supposed to wait for Daenerys to get to Westeros, which may take fucking ages.

I normally rather like evil badass guys on tv, but in this case when Boromir himself enters the playing field...I could only really cheer for one faction. After Starks, maybe Highgarden. What I dislike is now the new enemies comprise of an old fart who's going die soon anyway, and a rather boring poor man's Stannis who is incompetent on the battle-field. There's much to hate, but not much to hold interest. Needed more Tywin in that scene, just for whatever reason. This is Robb getting humiliated and discarded by people of not much note, it's a massive disservice to any fan who likes the family. I just can't understand the thinking process here.

- Agreed, the tragedy of that was superb, but it is really a short term gain for a massive long term loss. Let's just hope that the exceptional Stannis grows in power.

There is absolutely nothing exceptional about Stannis.

That side of the story has barely been covered this season. I predict he takes Casterly Rock in the season finale with his army of fire-breathing leaches.

+10 GoT points to him for leading his army's charge, -9 for being the redhead's bitch. But now he's my favourite contender as long as Jon doesn't provide a turn or Margaery makes Joffrey her bitch.
I still mourn Jaime's hand. The best swordsman around and they do that to him. Not going to get any good fight scenes now except from Jon and them folks beyond the sea.

I'm going to ignore most of the posts in this thread (notsureifbookspoilers), but I thoroughly enjoyed the last episode in terms of entertainment value due to the fact that the past few sucked donkey dick. However, I'm really pissed about the Stark situation.

No book spoilers, I make plenty sure. Not that excited by normal standards for the season finale. A welcome surprise would be most welcome, but I expect a standard cliff-hanger. They didn't really produce the goods with the zombie attack last time around. The set-up was amazing, they could have at least shown a few shots instead of going directly to the aftermath.

I'm not sure it's a huge long term loss. It gave the story a kick because I thought the whole war bit was getting a bit dull. Now there's new claims to the north and everything gets a shake up. Only real downside is that the Stark v Lannister rivalry is put on ice, for now at least.

You're definitely right that the story needed something like this. Still, I figured that the only chance the North ever had was entirely reliant on its unification.
The only hope now is that the Tyrells start doing some cheeky stuff.

Stannis is a bitch. I'm kind of shocked that you think so highly of him, GD. I'd say my favourite character is Jaqen H'ghar but I'm not sure if we'll be seeing him again. Other than him, favourites are Davos, The Hound, Bronn and Arya. None of the main contenders for the Iron Throne appeal to me at all.

My favourites are Stannis, Ser Jorah, Littlefinger, Daario Naharis, and Lady Brienne. The last one's inspirational fight against the accepted gender roles of the time really sends shivers down my spine.

Hope this finale isn't a strictly fall-out episode, want something new to keep the interest. Not that it isn't still a godly show, but I need a contender to root for. Maybe I'll start liking Dany more, if I have to. Or Stannis/Davos kills red bitch.

Re: Game of Thrones Thread
When I first read the Red Wedding I was presently surprised. The son taking revenge for the father (ie. Lion King) trope is so played out. Very refreshing the first time I heard it. As for people to root for.. I guess that's a show viewer problem more than a book viewer problem, I don't know. But at the end of ASOS I felt like Jon, Dany, and Tyrion were still the characters who I was most rooting for. With Bran and Stannis in the rear.

I get it, I only read the books because I didn't want to be spoiled and because I wanted to get the story in my head as soon as possible. I try not to spoil and try to word things without referencing the future.

Re: Game of Thrones Thread
Pretty much just watch the episodes these days. Even ignore casting news, would have loved to know that HBO were bringing in two Rome stars.
Caesar hasn't featured in a while though. Would be lovely if Cat's brother whatshisname survives and kills him. Just for the memories. But I can only imagine he's at best a hostage and at worst, killed off-screen. Because they couldn't fit enough heartbreak into the scene.
I'd spoiler that, but I think it's acceptable to assume everyone here's watched that by now.

Bring in Kevin McKidd. It's the least they could do to try and repent for slaughtering a chunk of my Wolf brethren.

Re: Game of Thrones Thread
I would actually be interested in seeing the casting because it could hint at what we'll see in the next ep.
I think the title of the next episode tells book readers what's going to happen for one part at least (if you speak Valaryian).

Which is why I'm grateful that I took Valaryian 202 last semester.
