Barcelona continued their perfect start through October. Thiago and Sanchez starred as Barca thrashed Sporting, before Fabregas scored his first goal for his new club against Racing. Xavi scored a smashing free kick in a narrow win over Leverkusen in the Champions League. Lionel Messi then stole all the headlines, scoring three hat tricks in three games. Sevilla were demolished 7-0 in the league, Real Union were thrashed 5-0 in the cup, and Mallorca were beaten 4-1. Messi scored the season's fastest goal yet, taking only 13 seconds.
