Can't believe how many people underrate Vidic on this forum. He's amazing.

Re: Manchester United FC Official Thread
To be fair our only automatic choices are Vidic and Rooney, maybe Nani as well.
Then again Rio is getting older and losing his pace quite quickly, which is vulnerable at times. Still, a class defender on his day though and a player you would love to have at any club. Just think with his injury set backs etc... it might be time to let Smalling/Evans/Jones to take more control.

Nani started a Champions League Final on the bench, we played Liverpool the other week with Rooney on the bench, Vidic didn't even make the squad for City or Liverpool, despite playing in both midweeks before and after those fixtures. With Ferguson's insane team selection at the moment, no-one is automatic choice other than the guy who has consistently been our worst defender.

Evra?
I think we need some more quality to be brutaly honest.
Defensive future is looking very good, but at present I'm not convinced. We'll have one of the best defenses in the country, if not the world in a few years time, but right now it's not at the level it should be.
Our wings are fairly solid, but we only really have one top quality Winger, which is Nani. Young, although I've grown quite fond of him, Valencia, Park and Giggs just aren't up there...
In our striker department we have a fairly bright future in Macheda and Welbeck, as well as Hernandez and Rooney being relatively young. However I do think we could need an experienced centreforward who could either liberate Rooney to play higher up the pitch, or play in front of Rooney. The future is definitely bright there, but with Berbatov being ignored, Owen clearly not suited for this level anymore and the rest of the "backups" really only being average at best, it would not hurt.
The midfield is really a big problem though. That needs to change as soon as possible. We need the playmaker, and we need the destructor. I like Fletcher, I like Carrick and I love Anderson, but they simply can't fill those roles. Cleverley clearly has some talent as passer of the ball, but let's not kid ourselves to believe he will become a world class playmaker, as that is probably never going to happen. Pogba is too young to take the destructor role as well.
Although we may have a reasonable talent pool for the future, there's no guarantees in that department...

Yeah but even out best players can't start every game, even though they should be against Liverpool and City.

You could say that again. How Phil Jones didn't play against either is a mystery.

Shut the fuck up then, you cunt. When people talk about players who are untouchable, they are talking about people who will play in our biggest games. You are so fucking stupid, and so focused on getting one over on people here, sort yourself out.

Sorry Danny but you saying "even though they should be against Liverpool and City" makes what you're saying irrelevant.

Even our best players, our players with undoubted quality, our Ballon d'Or nominated players, our players who are in the PFA Team of the Year nearly ever season, even they're not guaranteed to start. We do need more quality, that's undoubtedly true, but more important than that, now at least, is that Ferguson picks the good players and stops picking the shit ones.
We could field an XI which is perfectly capable of beating 90% of the teams in the Premier League without any addition of quality, we did that last season, and we're not much weaker now. We're as far away from winning Europe as we've been at any point in the last 20 years thanks to Ferguson and Gill's amazing negotiating skills, but a midfield of Anderson-Carrick-Cleverley, I reckon that's adequate enough, and a front 3 of 2 of Young, Valencia and Nani playing off Rooney, there aren't many teams in Europe that could deal with that.
Basically, what we need to do, in order
a) Stop picking shit players ahead of good ones
b) Stop insisting on playing 4 4 2, it is outmoded, and it exacerbates our problems in midfield
c) Buy one or several top quality midfielders as soon as possible. If their club asks for a higher fee than what Ferguson considers 'market value', or the players wage demands are excessive, fucking pay it anyway
