    News Story: Barcelona Sign Kompany

[FIFA 12] La Liga: FC Barcelona Vincent_Kompany_-_side

Last week, manager, Mido, declared interest in signing a center back. "We are lacking a quality center back at this moment. If Pique or Puyol get injured, we will be in a difficult situation. I will be looking at signing a center back in the coming days." Mido singled out Kompany as an ideal signing. FC Barcelona initially submitted a €31,000,000 offer for Kompany; however, Manchester City rejected the offer. Barcelona raised the offer to €36,000,000 and Kompany was on his way to the Camp Nou.

After passing his medical, Kompany put pen to paper for a three year deal at the Camp Nou. He will be the highest earning defender in the squad, earning €180,000 a week. Pique, Barca's second highest earning defender, currently earns €160,000 a week.

Kompany will be available for selection when Barcelona kick off their pre-season friendlies against Olympique Lyon. Barcelona will then travel to Germany to face Borussia M'gladbach before wrapping it up in Spain against West Bromwich Albion.

He is older and more expensive. I just need a backup center back. Hopefully, my current young players or the ones I scout will be quality defenders for the future.

Game Report: Barca draw in last game of pre-season

Barca drew 1-1 at the Camp Nou against West Brom Albion in the final pre-season friendly. Player-manager, Mido, opened the scoring in the 31st minute when he latched on a rebound. Seconds before the half-time whistle, West Brom shocked the home crowd as they equalized from a towering header by Long.

Barcelona came out blazing in the second half, but could not find the net. The best chance came to Sanchez in the 62nd minute. Mido found Pedro with the through ball before it was layed off to a wide open Sanchez. Sanchez timed his kick poorly as the ball landed back into Foster's hand.

Barcelona travel to the Bernabeu next week as they face Real Madrid in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup. Barcelona beat Olympique Lyon 2-0 in their first friendly before losing 3-2 to Borussia M'gladbach.

    News Story: Real after Xavi

Real Madrid has made a shocking offer to purchase Xavi 24 hours before the two sides face off in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup. Real Madrid has offered €76,500,000 for the services of the Barcelona vice-captain. "We will not accept any offers for Xavi, let alone one that is below €100,000,000" said manager, Mido.

"I spent my whole career here at the Camp Nou and I'm not going anywhere. I would never betray my family here and go to Real Madrid" said Xavi. "However, I appreciate the interest in my services. I'm now focused on the first leg match against Real."

Game Report: Real snatch a draw

The Spanish Super kicked off with Real hosting Barca in the first leg. It took 15 minutes for Barca to fire the warning bells. A magnificent through ball found Mido at the edge of the box. His shot went past a helpless Casillas but rebounded off the post. In the 40th minute a header by Benzema almost put Real ahead. The two sides went to the dressing room with a goalless draw at halftime.

Iniesta put Barca in front with a magnificent goal in the 58th minute. Iniesta ran 30 yards past the defenders before firing a low shot in the left corner past Casillas. Barca went from jubilation to misery in the 76th minute. Abidal put the ball in his own net after deflecting a Ronaldo shot in the box.

Barcelona have the upper hand with an away goal before they host Real Madrid at the Camp Nou in the second leg. Barcelona are favorites to lift the Spanish Super Cup.

News Story: Real up their offer

Despite Barcelona's clear rejection, Real came with an increased bid of €91,000,000 for the services of Xavi. "Maybe I didn't make myself clear on the matter before. We are not willing to sell Xavi and he does not want to leave for any club, let alone Real Madrid."

It remains to be seen if Real will increase their bid again or finally get the message this time. Reports asked Mido if he was planning on signing another player before the end of the transfer window. "We bought Kompany as a backup. Even though we still have plenty to spend in the transfer market, I do not plan on bringing anyone else at this time. We will re-evaluate the squad in the winter transfer window."

Game Report: Mido lifts first trophy

Barca came into the second leg with a 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu. Barca started off with same squad that faced Real Madrid last week and started off strong. In the 29th minute, Iniesta found Mido with a through ball. This time, Mido made no mistake as he slotted it past Casillas. Barca went into the dressing room at halftime with a 1-0 lead and one hand on the trophy.

The second half saw Real chasing shadows. Casillas saved his team from a larger loss. Busquets picked up a yellow card 2 minutes before the final whistle for a challenge on Ronaldo. The Barcelona defense managed to clear the ball out of the box in unconvincing fashion. However, it was enough to reward Mido's first trophy as player and manager. "I'm very excited. It's always great to win your first trophy, especially against a rival and team like Real Madrid. I'm happy for my team and they deserved it."

Barcelona face Malaga in the league opener. "We will celebrate the cup win tonight. But tomorrow, we will be back in training and totally focused on the game against Malaga" said Mido.
