Incorrect my friend, Berbatov played many games on his own up front last season, and in most games United were scoring 4 goals, Berbatov is a managers dream when it comes to holding the ball up, and laying it off for a wide man to storm past and score.

Sir Alex is trying to motivate Berbatov by not starting him. berbatov has the most incredible will power and he will not be disheartened, he will work his socks off to get back into the team. This is why Fergie has done this.
