Did Chelsea win the title with a little help from their friends?

Chelsea had a little helping hand to win the 2009-10 title.

Some thought it would be a big test for them playing at Anfield with a couple of games to go and the title still up for grabs, but at United we knew that Liverpool would ease off if that meant depriving us of the championship, especially a 19th championship that would take us past their record.

We'd heard rumours during the week that some Liverpool players had turned round to one of their young lads and said: 'There's not a f****** chance we're going to let United win this league.'

I've no idea whether that rumour was true or not, but you could see the game was a nice end-of- season stroll for Liverpool.

You could see half their players were on their summer holidays. Yet we couldn't complain, not publicly. It was up to us to make sure we weren't in a vulnerable position.

But it didn't say much for Liverpool.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2033387/Gary-Neville-I-sat-toilet-West-Brom-knew-I-playing-game.html#ixzz1X4sjxDXk

It would be more balanced if he'd remembered to discuss the year when Liverpool beat Blackburn on the final day and United couldn't beat an average West Ham side to take the title.

Selective memory from the sad cunt Laughing

Come on guys, seriously? Liverpool didn't try to win that game, that was obvious to anyone who was actually watching. Even without Gerrard playing Drogba in with a through ball, the only guys who were actually making an attempt to win the game were Aquilani and Reina.

Or maybe they just won, because they had a better team? Never entered that 'big' mind of yours Wayne?

Don't get me wrong, I think they were the favourites for the game anyway, but what Liverpool did that day damaged the integrity of the League.

The sad fact for the United fans is that in reality they lost the League that year at Old Trafford when they bottled it against Chelsea. Our game is just an excuse for them.

We lost it at Ewood Park. That's when we (Valencia especially) bottled it. Neutral

That was an entirely different, more honourable set of players, with a more honourable manager. Compare the effort Liverpool put in whenever we go to Anfield to the effort Liverpool put in that day against Chelsea and it is not even close.

We lost the League when we drew with Blackburn actually, after the home defeat to Chelsea we were still in with a great shout, with Chelsea having to go to White Hart Lane.

Could have been different if you'd beaten Chelsea though. Going into the last couple of games with a win over them would have given you a boost and put them on edge.

If we'd beaten Chelsea, we'd have gone on and won the title, I've little doubt about that. But it didn't help that we had to come from 2 goals down, instead of just 1, because the linesman that day was a idiot.

If we'd beaten Blackburn the week later I think (or was it 2 weeks later?), and we should have done, because when Valencia was through on goal Macheda was square for a tap in, we'd have won the league by point.

Chelsea deserved to beat us at Old Trafford that day, no question, we were only 2 goals down for about a minute before the referee allowed us a handballed goal.

They were a pretty fucking significant two games though don't you think?? Two games either side of the key match against you, in one of which our best player who was in the form of his life got injured, and the other where he knackered himself for the game against Blackburn.

Explanations for not winning the League are perfectly reasonable, Dean. If you posted that you didn't win the League that year because you had a load of shit players I wouldn't criticise you for that.
