Swansea City have been dealt a bitter blow with news that defender Alan Tate has broken his leg in a bizarre golfing accident.
The club's vice-captain was a passenger in a golf buggy that lost control at a local golf club this afternoon.
Tate was taken to Morriston Hospital by ambulance where he was diagnosed with a fractured tibia of his left leg.
We will give you an update on Tate's progress in due course.
Tate is one of only three current players - Leon Britton and Garry Monk the other two - who have played in all four divisions with the club after playing in the famous victory over Hull City at the Vetch Field that secured the Swans their Football League status at the end of the 2002-03 season.
A huge fans favourite, he made 43 league appearances last season and set up two of the goals in the Wembley play-off victory over Reading that secured the Swans promotion to the Premier League.
The former Manchester United trainee is currently in his 10th season with the Swans and has played well over 300 games.
He was on the substitutes bench for yesterday's Premier League clash with Sunderland at the Liberty Stadium.
