It's obvious that he has a lack of pace, so he has to be beside a top quality CB with a decent amount of pace to do well. An example of this not being the case was at the 2010 WC. Terry was beside Upson, who may not be a bad defender, but is clearly not on the same level as some of his previous partners such as Carvalho and Ferdinand. Terry had a poor game and was exposed at the back.

When he is placed beside a very good, competent CB, he is an excellent defender, but the flaw I have mentioned is a major one in his game. Many people don't realise that and can easily overrate him.

I'd say Ferdinand is better than Terry. Both could be seen as quite even in many aspects, but Ferdinand has more pace and I feel he is a lot better when on the ball.

So you rate a defender by how quick he is? personally i rate a defender by his tackling ability his aerial ability and his positional ability. I think Terry is a better tackler and is so much better in the air than Rio, yeah Rio has more pace and can play some decent passes, but Terry for me is so much better as a defender.

No, I rate defenders on all of the important factors such as the ones you mentioned, but those other little extras have to be taken into account as well. I would definitely put Ferdinand as the better tackler of the two and it would be quite even for aerial ability.

Pace is only needed if you in a sprint with a ST since Chelsea play their deep line they rarly have to deal with STs on the break.

But like you said my view is biased so when Chelsea dont win the title and i start supporting City ill make a fair choice lol

Gotta agree about Rio. There's this one Scottish idiot who constantly praises him. Can't quite remember his name off hand. Alan Fergusberg or Alex Ferdisun...something like that. People afford the guy way to much respect though, always calling him "sir" and whatnot. He's obviously a dolt. Wants to be a manager or some shit like that hahaha. I don't expect him to last long.
