Pretty much guaranteed Champions League football each season, usually have good cup runs, have lots of talent in the squad, have a 60,000 seater stadium etc.

Muhkoo wrote:Not a problem, this is crazy British mentality, i never heard of this being a thing in other countries at all. I've always disliked the teams in Copenhagen (FC København & Brøndby) and it came naturally that i support Ajax even if its in a completely different country which i have no ties with anymore. However as i've gotten older i appreciate it when the Danish teams do well in Europe but weekend comes along focus is on Ajax and EPL rather than my "local" teams.
People that have a problem with "plastic" fans need to grow up and get their head out of their asses.
That is correct Its only in England that you get criticized for not supporting a local team.
The way I see it is people follow the team they like. No point following your local team if your not going to enjoy it is there? I know loads of people who just can't stand lower division football. People have the freedom to follow whatever team they enjoy and they have the right to. British people just moan about this topic for the sake of it. Just like those Prius fanboys who tell everyone they can't drive gas guzzling cars.
ITS NOT YOUR LIFE PEOPLE CAN DO WHATEVER THE HELL THEY PLEASE !

Gotta hate the fans who support a team based on success, that's why Chelski supporters get ripped most of the time

Re: Not all plastic fans are plastic
There's a fine line.
If you've supported Manchester United and you don't rub everyones faces in it, know everything about the team but have never watched a match and you're like 12 or 13, I don't have a problem.
If you've supported Manchester United all your life and you rub it in everyones faces etc etc that's when i think ffs.
It's only the lower supporting fans that get their knickers in a twist about it, chill the fuck down and let them support it.

Why do you think the lower league fans are most bothered about it?

I don't have a problem with them as long as they actually have some sort of connection or at least show their support by going every now and again but most glory supporters fuck me off.

I think you can't class yourself as a supporter unless you physically attend games and offer the players your verbal support and encouragement. If you don't, you may be a fan but not a supporter.

What happens with people who can't afford tickets?

crump you are a moron. Lower league fans get pissed because their clubs are constantly fighting to keep alive. Whereas you get pissed cos Cesc Fabregas might be sold for £35m. You could buy every club in league 2 and most in league 1 with that money.

You get "plastic" fans for smaller clubs you know ? Your talking like they just follow Utd etc. I know loads of folks in Bradford or Yorkshire in general who are Leeds and Hull supporters/fans whatever you want to call it because they are the best teams from Yorkshire.

Re: Not all plastic fans are plastic
Who really cares at the end of the day? I like making fun of them for shits and giggles. But no sport survives without a heavy dose of casual fans. And in truth, the gloryhunters might have a better approach. Maybe we should all be a bit more casual. Think about it? We get all wound up and nervous on match days. We want so badly for them to win and if they don't, we're gutted. And what for? Unless you are a Man Utd fan, more years than not, you're going to end the season disappointed. I support 4 sports teams in Detroit. For about the last 25 years, call it. That's 100 seasons worth of sports. Between the 4 of them during that time, I've enjoyed 8 titles. 8 out of 100 possible. That doesn't sound like a very good return, but for American sports, we're actually one of the more successful sports towns. And we're still disappointed the vast majority of the time.
Does it seem worth it? The players don't give a shit about me. They don't care if I get promoted or fired. Why should I care so much about what happens at their job? On the surface, it doesn't make sense. But I'm still gonna grip when the playoffs come around. I don't honestly know why.

Still doesn't make them a plastic. Cheltenham have fans who travel from the likes Cirencester and Cinderford every game to support us. Does that make them plastic fans?
Are the Celtic from Ireland "plastic" fans even if they attend most of Celtics games?

Lots of people support a team because they are the best in the region and don't go to games so yes you could call them plastics. Sorta goes against what James says because a large amount of Hull's fan base are not locals.

Is it just me or don't we seem to sing the 'generic' songs you hear from other fans?
You never hear "By far the greatest team, the world has ever seen" at Anfield tbh, I prefer it that way, more original I reckon.

That song gets an airing, only on European nights.
We tend to stay away from the genric shite chants, like Easy Easy Easy, or your not singing anymore, or the wanker wanker wanker chant ect ...
Plus you wont find an England flag at anfield, or pride of whatever flags.
