I hate how some prople criticise others for supporting a team which isnt their local team.

My problem with this that its incredibly stupid. If evefybody was to support their local team, Englands biggest club would be Bromley Town. Not Manchester United.

There are some genuine football crazy fans who for reasons which are no fault of their own. If some malaysians love arsenal, then let them, they provide money to your broke ass club. If people in london support real madrid, then whats the problem.

Some people need to get off your high horses and realise who keeps your club financed.

I don't have a problem with glory hunters, I don't see what the problem is if someone who lives in Bristol supports United.

There's nothing wrong with supporting a non local club. If that's the club you love then what can you do ? Its people like James who get upset because their local clubs are not as big as others.

    Hilarious.

What stated isn't the problem. The problem is the people who support Man U either support them because they are from Manchester or because they are good. The 2nd reason is not a valid reason for supporting a club but it doesn't matter how much people deny it, they wouldn't of started supporting Man U if they where as good as Luton.

That's my last post on the subject, I don't support anyone so I can't talk. I follow a club but my money no longer goes to them.

The problem is that they are neglecting their local team in order to "support" a side they have no allegiance too. The concequence of this is that their local side will struggle financially due to the lack of income generated on match days.

The likes of Manchester United generate millions of pounds through commercial revenue whilst the likes of Cheltenham's only income is via ticket sales. If everyone "supported" a club miles from where they live this would cause their local club to go bust as they wouldn't be able to fund a team.

I think it's wrong because you have no connection to that club. If you were born next to Stamford Bridge then fair enough (unless you're Luke). But if you don't then you're not really helping football expand. If everyone supported their local team or a team they have a connection with then football would be so much bigger. The more glory hunters there are, the less competitive the game becomes.

Where is the achievement in supporting a team that wins everything that you have no connection with? Those who have been with their club from the dark days in the conference who one day win the Champions League can actually feel good about being there from day one.

Not a problem, this is crazy British mentality, i never heard of this being a thing in other countries at all. I've always disliked the teams in Copenhagen (FC København & Brøndby) and it came naturally that i support Ajax even if its in a completely different country which i have no ties with anymore. However as i've gotten older i appreciate it when the Danish teams do well in Europe but weekend comes along focus is on Ajax and EPL rather than my "local" teams.

People that have a problem with "plastic" fans need to grow up and get their head out of their asses.

Even I hate some of our 'fans'. I don't mind them living in Asia, or what not, but when they lack knowledge of the club, the history and players it pisses me right off. Also the fact that these 'fans' expect us to sign players we have no chance of buying. For example -

Rasadima patel - Ferge needz 2 buy world class playrs lyk Ronaldo, Messi and Iniestsa. buy them, Man U rulezzz.

Not to mention the idiots who will come to games, sit there dead quiet, moan about people standing and just there taking pictures during the game.

What if you're family grew up somewhere and supported that side (in my case my Dad's family grew up in Tottenham, then he moved to Crawley). So what happens if you have a connection to two clubs? Like me for example, my family grew up in Tottenham and one or two still live around there and I was born and raised in Crawley. I have a connection to both. Then what if I move to Brighton for example and they become my local side?

I think you'll find that most lower league fans have a problem with plastic fans as they see the bad effects they have on their club. e.g. poor crowds meaning less money for progression.

At Cheltenham we can barely get 3000 fans a game yet we are the biggest club in the county. Nearly all of my friends like football but yet only one supports Cheltenham despite them having lived here their whole life. Then I read in the local paper that our playing budget has again been cut due to falling crowds yet none of my friends care as it doesn't affect Manchester United or Arsenal.

I disregard people calling Arsenal a "gloryhunters" team.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea are probably the ones now, maybe City too.

I also keep an eye on Wycombe Wanderers and want to do so more this season eek2
