Downing is a pretty good player, I'm sure quite a few Liverpool and Arsenal fans wanted Young and I don't see much difference between the two, Downing is more consistent as well.

Too bad he's not, because he's English, and thus priced to high and not as good as advertised.

As ZF said, he would also only be around half the touted price, so I'm sure they'd be happy to have him as a squad player.

What? We want money to be spent wisely, not throwing out £20 Million on Downing when you can get much better players for that amount of money.

Yes, we complain when it is spent on players that aren't an improvement on what we currently have. Also, I don't think the interst from Arsenal is as solid as it is from Liverpool.

So say you wont pay this for Downing, there is no guarentee Wenger will go out and spend the money on someone else. Would that make you happier? No.

I would rather see us promote Miyaichi then waste £20 million on Downing. YOu can get Mata for £20 million, he is a far superior player.

If he was called Downinho he would cost a Mars bar and a back of peanuts, and we have a write to complain when that 22 million could be spent on someone like Mata or Willain.

Hell Willian would cost 10.

The point is, is that their are better quality players out there for same price.

If he was called Stuey Downinho he would probably not be English so thus cost about 50% less. Arsenal are on a very tight budget until 2014 (according to Mal) so it would be stupid to blow £20m on Downing when we could get players that could actually make our first team for the same price.

Walcott is a 20 year old striker who gotten 11 goals last season even though he got injured playing for England and he'll only get better. Arshavin was so inconsistent that he got 9 goals and 17 assists last season.

Downing's a good player but for 22 million I'd be expecting fireworks, something Downing's never shown to have in his locker.

Not world class, but close to world class. Downing is neither of these.

£22 Million will buy Mata who is much better then Downing. Can also buy you Oezil, VdV, Sahin, Suarez e/t/c

Walcott is played on the wing though.


And Dena, obviously there is exceptions but Ozil isn't one of them. He is a good player, not world class.. yet.

Ozil is like twice the player Downing is though.
