That is my impression at first as well actually! Always thought Spanish sounded much similar to Italian! But maybe because we aren't native speakers, all native speakers I've encountered said it is more similar to Portuguese...Dean wrote:I was thinking that. Had been living in Liverpool for quite a few years so he was fluent English too, but whenever I'd ask him to speak Portuguese, he would, sounded nothing like Spanish.
Historically, Portuguese and Spanish are much more related too, only having broke off each other properly in like the 13th century. Many local dialects in Spain like Galician, Asturian, Leonese, are much more closer to Portuguese as well.
