Seriously though, good move you think?
Ninja'd. It's hard to say. He has good players there but whether they can adapt to his system is up in the air. Taking into consideration that he has a limited talent pool to work with, and evaluating it is even harder. You have to wonder how the squad will hold up to the strain of Bielsa's high pressing game.
Looking on the bright side, Bielsa is a genius. He'll figure something out. Plus Athletic has some good players coming out of the cantera. I saw a suggested lineup somewhere that an Athletic fan posted.
Gorka Iraizoz
Andoni Iraola - Borja Ekiza - Fernando Amorebieta
Carlos Gurpegui/Pablo Orbaiz
David López - Javi Martínez - Ander Herrera
Gaizka Toquero - Fernando Llorente - Iker Muniain

Looks great TBH - except for Toquero.

Re: La Liga 11/12
I highly rate Bielsa, he is a tactical genius.. but has he coached clubs before?
Athletic have the players for his game too.. This could potentially be a genius move by the Athletic administration.

He coached two clubs in Argentina IIRC, and won trophies as well.

This is the guy who plays high pressure very attacking formations with only 3 defenders and coached Chile in the WC. Remember now?Cam wrote:I haven't heard of him: He's shit

Toquero is like a technically inferior version of Kuyt
But yeah it's impressive, can't help but admire the set up there.

Re: La Liga 11/12
Was Biesla the Chile coach in the WC?
edit: Nvm, didn't see Polska's post
Also, does Bilbao's Basque policy include managers and other staff, or just players?

Re: La Liga 11/12
Replace Lopez with Raul Garcia and Toquero with Xabi Prieto
I like Lopez, and he contributes alot to Athletic's game, especially with the set pieces, but he isn't that great a player tbh.

Re: La Liga 11/12
Well not really.. Other than when the club was founded (obviously due to it's origins) only a few foreign managers had stints at the club.

Signed for 5 seasons, I hope that it is the best move for him.
Jamie will still try and say how that limited Thiago is better.

Heard they've added a release clause of up to €24m on Isco's contract in this deal too.
