United striker in reported dig at team-mate
Federico Macheda is reported to have branded Manchester United team-mate Wayne Rooney 'working class and vulgar'.
The young forward's apparent comments have been published in an interview with Italy's Gazzetta Della Sport.
Macheda is currently away from Old Traffordwith Italy's Under 21 side, while Rooney is set to link up with England for their Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro on Tuesday.
Rooney has found himself thrust into the media spotlight in recent weeks following allegations over his private life, with his on-field displays this term failing to hit the heights of last season.
And while he is given credit for aiding the former Lazio youngster's development at Old Trafford, there are apparently other aspects which the 19-year-old finds less appealing.
Mature
Macheda is quoted as saying: "Rooney is a really great person, he always gives me advice, but he's a bit working class and vulgar."
And the talented teenager has again reiterated that he has no plans to seek an exit from the Red Devils as he continues to be linked with a loan return to Lazio.
He added: "I want to improve in Manchester, when I'm more mature I'll be able to make choices.
"The rumours about Lazio please me but I don't think I will go."

Probably taken wrongly in translation.
Although Macheda looks like a twat anyway and theres nothing wrong with working class.

He's been quoted as saying it and sky wouldn't have posted it if they thought otherwise.

He's been quoted, doesn't actually mean anything in this context does it? He was interviewed by Gazetta Della Sport (or so they say ), so if he did say something, it's probably been miss-translated, or overrexagerated. Never wondered why these kinds of stories always emerge during the international break?

The word he used was Coatto, which is a Roman slang term that is translated by online dictionary wordreference.com as "young urban working class person with vulgar and sometimes violent behaviour", but understood in the same way a "chav" would be in English.

It seems likely that Macheda meant the term affectionately, however, and certainly not as the insult it might seem when taken out of context. Some reports of the same interview suggest he actually finished the sentence "a coatto like me".

Doubt it's been mistranslated.
I would have thought it was if he was quoted as saying, "Rooney is suave and sophisticated."

Rooney is though, doesn't really strike you as some pretty boy does he.
Macheda is a cunt for saying something like that, Rooney was 10x the player he is when Rooney was 16 tbh.
Oh and at least he said he's a good person, but I can guarantee Dave made this because he's trying to wind us up.
It's possible he said what Wayne done was vulgar, like cheating on his wife, which I'd agree with.
You can take the boy out of Liverpool.

But a pal of the starlet said yesterday: "This isn't as bad as it sounds because Macheda is a chav himself.
"His dad's an odd-job man and his mum's a cleaner so he's hardly from middle class stock and wasn't talking down to Wayne. I doubt they'll be falling out."

So what? He likes wearing tracksits, yeah its a bit a chav. Big deal.
There's no need to turn this into a big deal and blow it out of proportion, i doubt Wayne will even care to be honest, it was probably just a joke or something, nothing personal.
Besides, Macheda looks like a smug prick with bad hair if you ask me.

Coatto doesn't even mean chav It means a person from a working class background. Chav in italian is just the same as in England I think.

Looked online and apparently it has many different meanings depending on which area of Italy the person is from. The worst definition being working class and vulgar, so obviously the papers are going to choose that one.

He probably did say it. calling him working class is a fact and has some redeeming qualities! as for calling him vulgar, it's a translation thing! there are far fewer words in the italian language than English! it probably equates to Macheda calling Rooney "a little rough around the edges", which is gonna happen when you are bought up on a UK council estate (no offence - but you lot are far more likely to be "salt of the earth" than "a bloody nice chap".
Rooney's still a cunt though.

There we are, aparently Macheda meant to say he was "a free spirit" whatever that means.
