Henry is obviously.
Arsenal run this forum
Look famalam, it's not about how well a team plays, it's about the individuals being in the team for what they done in the Premier League.dena wrote:Well if Henry is the other striker I still choose Bergkamp to make the team better.

If you look at my post in the voting thread you would see I picked Henry and Ruud. If this was based on individual talent and not goalscoring records Bergkamp would easily make the team, as it is taking into account what they achieved plus talent wise, I agree Ruud should be there.Fine Shagger wrote:Steadman wrote:Bergkamp is better than Shearer though.
Maybe, it's close.
Van Nistelrooy has had a much better premiership career than him though.
Talent wise Bergkamp shits on Shearer.Dan wrote:Steadman wrote:Bergkamp is better than Shearer though.
Goal record says otherwise. For the position of striker, Shearer was better.
So because you think a team wont play as well you leave out players that have done better in the league and deserve to get in the team, especially when this isn't anything to do with how they play?dena wrote:kyro7 wrote:Look famalam, it's not about how well a team plays, it's about the individuals being in the team for what they done in the Premier League.dena wrote:Well if Henry is the other striker I still choose Bergkamp to make the team better.
Well no because when I pick XI's I always envision how the team will play together, football is all about balance within the side and cohesion between the players. When the collective balance of the side is achieved the great player emerges, so even when discussing a fictitious XI of players from different eras or different leagues I must always have this ethos and philosophy in consideration.

Talent wise Messi shits on Jamie Carragher, but I know who I'd rather have in defence.

Okay.

How is that relevant?Dan wrote:Steadman wrote:Talent wise Bergkamp shits on Shearer.Dan wrote:Steadman wrote:Bergkamp is better than Shearer though.

Okay.
I'm glad we've come to an understanding.

Both Bergkamp and Shearer were forwards, sure Bergkamp was a center forward while Bergkamp played as a withdrawn striker but you can still compare them easily enough. You can easily fit Bergkamp into the team by just moving one of the striker positions to make it a 4-4-1-1 wouldn't make any difference.
If you asked me if i'd rather have Shearer in my team as a center forward or Bergkamp in my team as a second striker, i'd still choose Bergkamp.
Why does it have to be a flat 4-4-2?Dan wrote:Steadman wrote:How is that relevant?Dan wrote:Steadman wrote:Talent wise Bergkamp shits on Shearer.Dan wrote:

I'm just saying, we're looking at a striker. Shearer is a better striker. Having more 'talent' is irrelevant.
Exactly. Only a minor change.kyro7 wrote:Put it this way, whoever wins decides whether it's a 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1?

Yes Bergkamp plays as a striker
