Michael Carrick has played regularly at Champions League level. Does that mean he is the best ever CM in the PL? No it does not, so that means absolutely nothing.

He was in the Chelsea squad that won the PL but he hardly ever played for them. Anderson has won 3 PL titles but he is not the best ever midfielder in the Premier League either.

Sorry for singling out your choice, but I hadn't noticed some of the earlier ones and only saw yours.
