Pele. I love Ronaldo, but he didn't perform at his optimum throughout his whole career like Pele did.

Haven't seen enough of Pele to judge but i'm gonna go right ahead and assume he had a more consistent career but was never the explosive beast Ronaldo was pre-injury.

Pele
Ronaldo was an incredible striker and one of the most ruthless and clinical of all time and he also proved himself in Europe but Pele was simply unreal. Pele is in my views the most incredible player of all time, therefore I class him ahead of Ronaldo.

Those that saw both say Pele, I cannot say I have so cannot make an informed judgement.

Re: Ronaldo or Pele?
Pele's footwork was unbelievable, Some of those little tricks he did to get past defenders were out of this world
But I aint even seen a full match of Pele, Just youtube videos etc: so I cant vote

Pele's over-hyped because of his media friendliness.

Some could argue that competition was better back then, but who knows.
Pele's 1200+ goals and numerous World Cups speak for themselves.

Re: Ronaldo or Pele?
The thing I don't understand about Pele criticism is that people always say do they know how to defend? People seem to forget that Pele was still ripping up defenders in his late ages which was the early 70's...and during those times where when guys like George Best, Gerd Muller, Dino Zoff, Bobby Charlton, Bobby Moore etc began to make their name. So tell me? are those guys shit as well? Pele is just a beast, a natural talented player. To try and take away his achievement because you thought players don't know how to defend back then is a total disgrace.

Re: Ronaldo or Pele?
Dixie dean scored 60 league goals one season did you see the Goals for and against back then and come one some of the results back then were like crazy. And back then when Pele played what formation's did the play 2 3 5 or something like that. I mean he was scoring something like 60 goals in 40 odd games and shit.chiboygeorge wrote:The thing I don't understand about Pele criticism is that people always say do they know how to defend? I just gave you an example that during the 1970's where Football was supposedly "more organized" Pele was still beating defenders like he did in the 60's....Most English consider Moore to be one of the best defenders and Charlton as one of the better attackers...also Italians with Zoff and Irish/Utd fans as George Best to be one of the best ever players? Pele was still playing around that time and he still weaved through defenders with ease. If Pele's final moments where in the 70's and he was still feared by all these players...Imagine if the 70's was only the beginning of Pele...

Re: Ronaldo or Pele?
I find it annoying whenever players criticise Pele because of the standard that he played at. They try to say that he did not prove himself at a high enough level.
Maybe Pele didn't play at the highest standard in club football but he played against the best on the international stage 4 times and on 2 of those occasions he was undoubtedly the best player in the tournament.

Im not saying pele was not one of the greatest players but i mean his goal scoring stats were just crazy and did any of you see him playing game after game back then and what kind of quality was he scoring goals against in his club career.

You have to remember, Brazilians didn't/rarely travelled to Europe then. So the best Brazilian players were in their homeland.

Pelé did play at the highest level of club football, that's the thing than annoys me when people pass judgements. Liga do Brazil was the strongest league in world football when Pelé was plying his trade.

Thats another thing which I didn't mention. Back then players like Garrincha and Zico stayed in their homeland. The standard of football was actually a lot higher than people think.Ricardo wrote:cheesy wrote:I find it annoying whenever players criticise Pele because of the standard that he played at. People will simply base that opinion on the modern day, as the Brazilian league is not as strong anymore.

Well i saw Zico playing and he was just amazing. I remember him playing for Brazil the the 1982 World cup great team to watch even though they lost in the Quarter Finals to Italy.cheesy wrote:Thats another thing which I didn't mention.
