After Bela Guttman won the European Cup twice with Benfica, they kicked him out unjustedly. He put a curse on them that they would never win another European Cup. They've lost five finals since then.

The Scottish Cup tie between Falkirk and Inverness Caledonian Thistle in 1979 was postponed no fewer than 29 times because of bad weather.

Italian legend Paolo Maldini has a collection of 17 runners-up medals - probably the biggest in the game. It includes three Champions League finals, three Intercontinental/World Club Cups, two Coppa Italias, three Supercoppas, a UEFA Super Cup final, a World Cup, A European Championship and three league titles.

Why would you mention Leverkusen? Laughing They have only ever won two trophies in the history of their club -- the German Cup once, and the UEFA Cup once.

A manager of a team in Swaziland once poured mongoose blood onto his home teams pitch for good luck. His team then went on to win 2-0 in that game.
